About the role

The Louise McBee Institute of Higher Education at the University of Georgia invites applications from senior higher education scholars to fill the Louise McBee Distinguished Professorship in Higher Education with a starting date of August 1, 2026. The professorship honors Dr. Louise McBee, who held multiple leadership positions at the University of Georgia before serving for over a decade as a champion for higher education in the Georgia legislature.

As an administrator, she helped advance UGA’s academic and service missions; as a legislator, she played important roles in ensuring the future of the HOPE Scholarship and launching initiatives such as the Governor’s Teaching Fellows program. We seek a scholar who will advance the multi-disciplinary character of the McBee Institute, add to the depth and breadth of our faculty, and undertake work that furthers our understandings of higher education.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach core graduate-level courses, advise and mentor doctoral students, pursue an active program of funded research, publish impactful scholarship, and participate in the ongoing academic and governance activities of the McBee Institute.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should have a doctoral degree in higher education or an equivalent terminal degree in a complementary field (e.g., economics, law, management, political science, public policy, sociology).
  • Candidates should bring a distinguished record in instruction, scholarly research, and extramural funding focused on the study of higher education.
  • We encourage applications from scholars with expertise in quantitative, qualitative, and/or mixed methods approaches.
