Description Bishop McNamara High School is a private, Catholic co-educational high school in the Holy Cross tradition, offering its students a challenging college preparatory curriculum and a complete range of athletics and activities. The school is located in Forestville, Maryland, about 10 minutes from Washington, D.C. Bishop McNamara High School has an opening to join the Fine Arts Department as a long-term substitute visual art teacher from September to November. The long-term substitute will instruct students in artistic techniques, art history, and creative expression, fostering both technical skill and aesthetic appreciation, while ensuring continuity of instruction for the duration of the assignment. This is a part-time, temporary position supported by a collaborative team of experienced teachers and mentors. Requirements ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Deliver planned art curriculum in drawing, painting, sculpture, and other art forms, maintaining continuity with the regular teacher's course of study and pacing.Develop and adapt lesson plans in the relevant subject area and grade, ensuring lessons align with curriculum objectives and Fine Arts Department goals.Establish and enforce classroom and studio safety procedures, including proper use and care of art materials, tools, and equipment.Use a range of teaching materials and methods, including demonstrations and critique, to advance student learning and creative growth.Provide additional support and interventions for students as needed, based on their readiness and learning profile.Prepare students for assessments, critiques, and exhibitions of student work.Grade assessments and coursework, providing feedback and reports to students and parents.Attend staff and parent meetings to provide helpful recommendations or voice concerns.Establish rapport and professional relationships with students, staff, and parents.Supervise students in class, during events, and on field trips.Monitor students' overall wellbeing and liaise with school counselors and other staff members when there are concerns or issues.Coordinate with the Director of Fine Arts and returning teacher (as applicable) to ensure a smooth transition at the start and close of the assignment. Required Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Art Education, Studio Art, Fine Arts, or a related field.Commitment to development of the whole student, including well-being and character, in alignment with the Holy Cross tradition of education. Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching art in a high school setting, with demonstrated expertise in differentiated instruction.Experience using technology to extend and enhance learning in a 1:1 BYOD environment.Familiarity with a range of studio disciplines (drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, or digital art). Physical Demands Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer and to work with art tools and materials; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors, and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
