Long Term Substitute: Middle School Humanities
Middle school is one of the most dynamic and rewarding places to teach—and at Moravian Academy's Swain Campus, we're looking for a Humanities teacher who knows that and wants in, even for a defined stretch of time. From August 14 through mid-October 2026, you'll teach multiple sections of ELA and History for students in grades 6–8, serve as a student advisor, and contribute fully to the life of our middle school community.
About the Role
You bring content knowledge in English Language Arts and Social Studies, a genuine feel for early adolescence, and the presence to build relationships that matter—quickly and authentically. At Moravian Academy, we believe middle school is not a holding pattern between elementary and upper school—it's a destination in itself. Whether you're between positions, returning to the classroom, or simply open to where good work takes you, this is a real role with real students, and we're hiring for it with full seriousness.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in English, History, Education, or a closely related field; master's preferred
- Demonstrated experience and genuine enthusiasm for teaching middle school-aged students
- Strong understanding of adolescent development and middle school pedagogy
- Ability to engage and motivate students across the developmental spectrum of early adolescence
- Skill in building trust-based relationships quickly with students, families, and colleagues
- Background in an independent school or college-preparatory setting preferred
- Familiarity with Google Workspace for Education preferred
- Successful completion of required Pennsylvania background clearances (Act 34, Act 151, Act 114) prior to start of employment
