NOTE: The lists below are not ranked in order of importance Qualifications Bachelor's degree in education from an accredited college or universityValid Ohio Special Education Teaching Certificate/LicenseSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Ability to work effectively with othersKnowledge of the Operating Standards for Ohio's Schools Serving Children with DisabilitiesKnowledge of FERPA and HIPAAKnowledge of Ohio's Academic Content StandardKnowledge of IEP developmentAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writingEffective, active listening skillsOrganizational and problem-solving skillsDemonstrated a positive work ethicAttend work regularly and punctuallyBasic computer skillsStudent management skillsWork cooperatively with others in small groupsAbility to be flexible and adaptable to changing situations Essential Functions Ensure the safety of studentsAssists in providing staff development activities related to the modification and adaptation of curriculum and instructionCommunicates regularly with parents and professional staff regarding the educational, social, and personal needs of the studentServes as a building resource person to identify and provide instructional materials and strategies that diagnose and respond to individual student competencies and needsAssists the special education student in making an assessment of his/her abilities and in establishing educational and vocational occupational goals in keeping with these abilitiesServes as a member of the building intervention assistance teamsProvides support for the case managers of students referred to intervention assistance teams, including observations of studentsAssists in reviewing the implementation of 504 Plans and IEPsProvides modeling of specific teaching strategies for the classroom teacherProvides additional support for classroom teachers through information on research, changes in the law, and speakers on relevant topics Additional Working Conditions Occasional interaction among unruly childrenOccasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissueOccasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 25 pounds, e.g., paper boxes, deliveries of supplies and equipmentOccasional travel, e.g., attending a workshop outside of the districtFrequently move and position oneself as necessary to access and operate equipmentFrequently move around the workspace and travel throughout the school building Employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her employment with the district.
