About the Role

We are seeking an innovative, energetic, and tech-savvy Long-Term Substitute Teacher for Career, Technical & Agricultural Education (CTAE) to provide engaging, hands-on instruction to high school students. This is a long-term substitute teaching assignment requiring consistent daily instruction and classroom leadership for an extended period. The selected candidate will become an active part of the school community, maintain continuity of instruction, monitor student progress, and fulfill regular instructional responsibilities associated with the assigned CTAE classroom.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for preparing students for college, careers, entrepreneurship, technology, and the modern workforce. The Long-Term Substitute CTAE Teacher will create a learning environment connecting academic knowledge with real-world career and technical skills, introducing students to career pathways in technology, business, agriculture, skilled trades, entrepreneurship, and other high-demand industries.

Responsibilities

  • Report consistently and reliably throughout the duration of the long-term assignment.
  • Assume responsibility for the day-to-day instruction and management of the assigned CTAE classroom.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, hands-on lessons aligned with the school's CTAE curriculum and student learning goals.
  • Follow established curriculum, lesson plans, pacing guides, school procedures, and instructional expectations.
  • Integrate technology, digital tools, AI resources, and educational software into classroom instruction.
  • Introduce students to various career pathways and help them understand the education, certifications, and skills required for different professions.
  • Provide project-based learning experiences that allow students to apply classroom concepts to real-world situations.
  • Teach essential workplace skills, including communication, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, professionalism, time management, and critical thinking.
  • Incorporate entrepreneurship, financial literacy, career readiness, and workforce development concepts where appropriate.
  • Provide exposure to modern agricultural concepts, including agricultural technology, sustainability, agribusiness, food systems, environmental science, and related career opportunities.
  • Assist students with career exploration, resume development, interviewing skills, and preparation for employment and postsecondary opportunities.
  • Utilize computers, interactive technology, multimedia presentations, and online learning platforms effectively.
  • Maintain an organized, positive, safe, and student-centered classroom environment.
  • Establish appropriate classroom expectations and maintain effective classroom management.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain appropriate attendance, grades, assignments, and instructional records throughout the long-term assignment.
  • Communicate appropriately with school administration, instructional staff, students, and families when required.
  • Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, employers, community partners, colleges, and industry professionals to enhance student learning opportunities.
  • Participate in professional development, faculty meetings, planning sessions, and other school activities as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Career and Technical Education, Agriculture, Business, Technology, Workforce Development, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous teaching, substitute teaching, training, mentoring, workforce development, industry, or youth-development experience preferred.
  • Appropriate teaching certification or eligibility for certification, when required.
  • Experience working with high school students strongly preferred.
  • Previous long-term substitute teaching or classroom teaching experience is highly desirable.
  • Strong technology skills and the ability to quickly learn new educational platforms and applications.
  • Experience with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, learning management systems, AI technology, digital presentations, and other instructional technology is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication, classroom management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to connect classroom instruction to practical career and workforce applications.
  • Ability to make a consistent commitment to the full duration of the long-term assignment.

Ideal Candidate

We are particularly interested in a teacher who is creative, innovative, dependable, technology-driven, and comfortable thinking beyond the traditional classroom model. The successful candidate must be comfortable taking ownership of the classroom and providing students with the consistency and instructional continuity they would receive from their regular classroom teacher.

The successful candidate should help students understand: “What am I learning, how does it connect to the real world, and how can I use these skills to build my future?” The teacher should be comfortable incorporating emerging technology and hands-on projects to make career education relevant and exciting.
