Long Term Substitute - 2nd Grade Bilingual Teacher
Job Summary
Under the direction of the Building Administrator, this Long-Term Substitute Teacher will be responsible for the instruction, progress, and discipline of all pupils in assigned classes.
General Qualifications
- Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE).
- Strong communication skills (written and oral).
- Fluent in Spanish and English.
Duties
- Fills long term substitute teaching needs which would include lesson planning (with assistance from administration and teachers) and assessing progress of student work (grades).
- Attends parent teacher conferences, trainings, and meetings as needed for the position.
- Communicates with parents as needed after consulting with administration. This can be a variety of communication such as providing good news and/or information on academic or behavior.
- Supervises students in a variety of school related settings.
- When available, follows lesson plans and instructions provided by teacher to provide instruction to assigned students. If plans are not available, uses appropriate resources available in the classroom and nearby teachers to create plans.
- Establishes positive learning expectation standards for all students.
- Maintains accurate student attendance records.
- Encourages student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept; ensures fairness in teacher-student relationships and exhibits an understanding and respect for students.
- Manages classroom organization.
- Cleans and organizes the rooms at the end of the day.
- Provides communication to the teacher at the end of the day. Can provide a rating to administration of the lesson plans and instructions that were left by the teacher.
- Modifies instruction to meet student needs, works effectively with pupils, parents and guardians, staff members, and community representatives in providing an appropriate educational program; understands the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional patterns of pupils.
- Skilled in the application of contemporary principles and practices of teaching, good oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills, skill in exercising sound and professional judgment.
Other Duties
- Follows district procedures for reporting self-absences if assigned a classroom and unable to fulfill the duty.
Mental Demands
- Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written) with parents (consult with administration first), colleagues, administration and all other members of the educational community.
- Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
- Ability to use web-based programs, e-mail, and technology (laptop, Smartboard, etc.) effectively.
Working Conditions
- Indoor classrooms/School, exposure to: student noise, lawn mowing, music, odors of food, mowed grass and possible communicable diseases.
- Outdoor schoolyard and grounds, field trips ; exposure to; temperatures (hot warm, cool, cold), and exposure to mowed grass.
- Regular work attendance.

Salary and Benefits
- $243.36 per day for length of assignment.
- Sick/personal: Sick and personal leave will accumulate at a rate of 1 sick day at the conclusion of each continuous month worked and .25 personal day at the conclusion of each continuous month worked.
Dates of Position
The duration of the position may vary depending on the ability of the District to fill the position with a qualified teacher. In some cases, the duration will be defined. This position will begin on August 12, 2026. The District is required to hire a fully-certified teacher for the vacancy when possible, and for unfilled vacancies the District will leave the position posted until the District is able to hire a fully-certified teacher, at which time the long-term substitute position will terminate. To the extent possible, the District will provide advanced notice to this substitute teacher filling the position.
