About the Role
CREC, River Street Schools and Programs, seeks a long-term substitute Special Education Teacher to work across elementary, secondary, and high school levels. Successful candidates will provide direct and/or consultative services, both in small group and/or within the general education setting, to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs in academics, interpersonal skills, and activities of daily living.
Responsibilities
- Conducts assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students to identify learning issues and recommend corrective procedures.
- Participates in PPTs and assists in developing Individual Educational Programs (IEPs) for students.
- Assists students and teaching staff in implementing students' IEPs and behavior management plans.
- Collaborates with general education teachers and pupil personnel staff to design and implement programs addressing individualized student needs.
- Coordinates with district representatives, outside agencies, organizations, and institutions, including state and federal authorities.
- Serves as a resource to students and parents, providing counseling to support personal growth, self-understanding, and behavioral management; acts as a liaison between home and school.
- Collects, organizes, and maintains data to assist in decision-making related to academic and behavioral concerns.
- Stays current with developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, conducting research, and maintaining professional relationships.
- Maintains accurate and complete record-keeping systems, providing student information as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Utilizes appropriate books, aids, and other supplies, maintaining inventory records.
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director, Assistant Directors, or other central office administrators.
Requirements
- Knowledge of Special Education principles, theories, testing, methods, and curriculum/Common Core standards.
- Knowledge of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and action plan formulation.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work effectively.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, LEAs, students, and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Must pass a two-day safety care training program without restrictions.
Qualifications
- State Certification as a Special Education Teacher preferred.
- BA required.
