About the role
Aitkin High School is seeking a Long-Term Substitute Special Education Teacher to join our dedicated team. This role serves students in grades 9–12 by providing specialized instruction, supporting students in inclusive classroom settings, and collaborating with general education teachers.
Responsibilities
- Provide special education instruction to students in grades 9–12.
- Deliver instruction in small group and co-teaching settings.
- Plan and develop engaging lessons that address a variety of student learning needs and abilities.
- Implement students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) with fidelity.
- Monitor student progress and maintain appropriate documentation.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families to support student success.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs of learners.
- Create a positive, safe, and supportive classroom environment that encourages student growth and independence.
- Build meaningful relationships with students while maintaining consistent expectations.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional collaboration, and other school activities as appropriate.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to state and federal special education requirements.
Qualifications
- Valid Minnesota teaching license or eligibility to obtain appropriate licensure preferred.
- Special Education licensure preferred; candidates eligible for appropriate substitute teaching credentials or graduating in December are encouraged to apply.
- Knowledge of best practices in special education instruction is preferred.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Commitment to meeting the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of students.
- Willingness to learn and grow with the support of experienced special education professionals.
