About the role
Acts as a liaison with freight forwarders and customers to transport shipments. Analyzes data and recommends improvements to best service the customer at competitive rates. Processes customer orders in the distribution center and routes shipments in accordance with DOT, IATA, and IMDG regulations, balancing efficiency and cost.
Responsibilities
- Expedite shipments by coordinating activities of customer service representatives, the distribution center, and international packing to ensure a high level of customer service.
- Obtain, prepare, and submit documentation for domestic and international shipment bookings.
- Obtain bookings with steamship lines, freight forwarders, and consolidators; arrange consolidations to ensure efficient, cost-effective, and timely delivery.
- Manage supply inventory for administrative and warehouse needs, including ordering supplies and managing replenishment levels.
- Seek and recommend new sources or methods for transporting hazardous materials by analyzing data and suggesting improvements in rates, services, and shipping knowledge to customers and affiliates.
- Serve as liaison between freight forwarders, freight brokers, and customers.
- Troubleshoot lost or damaged shipments and address customer questions or concerns.
- Arrange consolidations to affiliate locations.
- Prepare and present all documentation to customers and shipping authorities.
- Provide documentation for multi-hazard class chemical shipments.
- Maintain, control, and organize electronic and paper document files.
- Perform miscellaneous duties and tasks as required.
- Maintain exemplary attendance and adhere to schedule.
- Follow all good distribution practices (GDP) where applicable.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or HSED required.
- Preferred: Hazardous material certification for shipping by air, sea, and CFR 49.
- Two years of previous experience in Logistics, Warehousing, or Supply Chain.
- Over 1, up to 3 years’ experience in a related field.
- Experience with logistics and shipping requirements, including hazardous and dangerous goods (no direct handling required).
Skills
- Ability to operate PC, telephone, printer, scanner, copier, and fax machine.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to escalate problems beyond the scope of the position.
- Ability to access available information and make independent decisions; troubleshoot based on knowledge of related operations.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with various levels of staff and outside customers/vendors.
- Strong organizational skills.
