Logistics Supervisor

Job Summary

The Logistics Supervisor's primary responsibility is to oversee processes and procedures in the receiving and shipping department. They are responsible for recording time, date, quantity, source, and destination of materials received or shipped, ensuring goods are verified against records of shipment, overseeing inspections of goods received, maintaining records of damaged or defective items and discrepancies in quantities and weights, and managing the shipping and receiving lead, clerks, and handlers, both inside and outside the yard.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
• 2-4 years' experience in shipping/receiving leadership operations
• Good leadership skills and ability to work in a team environment
• Able to follow deadlines and work under pressure
• Excellent communication skills
• Proficiency with ERP systems, particularly Global Shop preferred
• Experience managing truckers and shipping
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Microsoft Excel, Word, and Microsoft Outlook)

Responsibilities

• Supervise employees in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments and preparing items for shipment
• Oversee incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and condition of shipments
• Calculate estimated costs associated with the shipping/delivery function and recommend appropriate alternatives
• Ensure compliance with DOT regulations including reviewing daily driver’s log sheets, accident reporting and investigation, drug testing requirements, and transportation equipment maintenance
• Maintain various files and records both computerized and hard copy files
• Weekly time management approvals and submission to management in Global shop
• Interview department candidates
• Address employee relations issues, such as work complaints or other employee concerns
• Create and administer employee written warnings and submit to management
• Provide initial and ongoing training and evaluation to assigned delivery personnel related to job duties and performance expectations
• Supervise employees who count, weigh, and identify items in receiving and shipping department
• Inspect material handling equipment for defects and notify maintenance personnel for repair
• Cook up with the Plant Manager, Plant Supervisors, Production Scheduler, and other Plant personnel to attain delivery, cost, and quality of service objectives
• Ensure the cost effectiveness of the delivery function, including the control of labor utilization, preventing excess hours, downtime, and overtime, and efficient usage of transportation related equipment
• Study shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates
• Foster positive working relationships
• Respond proactively to performance concerns, discipline, employee complaints, and other employee relations matters
• Inspect loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications for each customer
• Ability to perform miscellaneous job functions to assist with administration and production operations, as needed

Working Conditions

• Offices in the Manufacturing Plant, 100%
• Seasonal weather conditions
