About the role
The Logistics Specialist plays a crucial role in coordinating, dispatching, and monitoring daily shipment activities to ensure the safe, compliant, timely, and cost-effective movement of chemical products. This position supports multiple manufacturing locations and serves as the primary coordination point between operations, carriers, drivers, and internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, dispatch, and track outbound and inbound shipments across one or multiple locations using BluJay TMS and SAP.
- Execute shipment creation, load tendering, tracking, and confirmations within BluJay, ensuring data accuracy and timely updates.
- Maintain accurate shipment, delivery, and financial data in SAP, including shipment confirmations and charge validation.
- Proactively review, validate, and update all applicable freight rates, accessorials, fuel surcharges, and special charges in BluJay and SAP to prevent carrier billing errors and payment delays.
- Cook up carrier assignments and equipment availability in alignment with production schedules and customer requirements.
- Monitor and enforce carrier compliance with DOT regulations, hazmat requirements, site safety rules, and chemical handling standards.
- Conduct periodic safety and service performance reviews with carriers serving assigned locations, addressing on-time performance, compliance, incidents, and corrective actions.
- Communicate shipment status, delays, incidents, or exceptions to Customer Service, Production, Warehouse, and Supply Planning teams.
- Resolve day-to-day transportation issues, including missed pickups, late deliveries, equipment constraints, hazmat exceptions, and incorrect charges.
- Support freight optimization and cost-control initiatives, including consolidation opportunities, routing improvements, and accessorial reduction.
- Maintain a strong focus on safety, regulatory compliance, cost discipline, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree or logistics-related training preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in shipping, dispatching, or transportation within a manufacturing, chemical, or regulated industry environment.
- Experience supporting multiple locations or high-volume shipping operations.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments, sites, and priorities simultaneously.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
Preferred Skills and Competencies
- Experience shipping hazardous materials, bulk liquids, or regulated chemical products.
- Hands-on experience with BluJay TMS (e2open) and SAP strongly preferred.
- Solid understanding of freight rating, accessorial charges, carrier invoicing, and dispute resolution.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly related to financial accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Proactive problem-solving skills with sound judgment and escalation discipline.
- Customer-focused mindset with a strong sense of urgency and accountability.
- Familiarity with site safety programs, carrier scorecards, and corrective action processes.
Location & Travel
This is a hybrid role, with monthly onsite trips to Conway, NC. Expected travel is 25% to support customer sites and our plant locations.
