Logistics Operator

Job Summary

Moves finished product from rolling mill to staging area for outbound shipments using mobile or material handling equipment. Assists in various logistics functions including inventory and quality checks.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs routine tasks involving the operation of mobile equipment and handling materials safely.
• Transfers stacked and bundled materials from rolling mill finishing operations to stock area.
• Stores materials according to product, grade, size, and heat number.
• Rotates warehouse stock materials to make room for new product.
• Communicates material locations for inventory accuracy.
• Operates material handling equipment to lift, move, and position product.
• Observes items for conformity regarding product size, type, and length, reporting quality issues to the Quality department.
• Affixes to perform physical inventory counts and daily inventory spot checks.
• Performs other duties and work assignments as required and directed.

Additional Responsibilities

• Ensures daily preventative maintenance on vehicles and mobile equipment, including fueling, cleaning, and checking/adding fluids as needed.
• Fulfills PPE requirements and adheres to safety rules and guidelines.
• Assists in training of coworkers as needed.
• Executes general 5S activities in the work area.

Education/Experience

• High school diploma or GED.
• Completed Gerdau safety training.
• Completed Gerdau forklift certification training and electric overhead crane training.
• One to two years of manufacturing experience preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing or walking, balance, bend from trunk, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, push, and pull objects.
• Ability to frequently lift objects up to 15 lbs. and dunnage up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to frequently mount and dismount forklifts and cranes.
• Passes an “applicable fit for duty” exam.
