About the role

Be a part of operating the world’s largest cloud computing infrastructure. Amazon Web Services is seeking a bright, motivated, hardworking individual to fill the Data Center Logistics Manager position. This impactful role requires analytical strength, attention to detail, open communication, and the ability to work autonomously. The Logistics Manager partners with Infrastructure teams and a wide array of Amazon stakeholders to manage communication, team metrics, and team-specific deliverables or milestones. The role demands a strong sense of urgency and the ability to make sound judgments.

As a strategist and implementer, the Logistics Manager ensures streamlined activities within the organization that guarantee success for the business and drives their team to invent and simplify at a local, regional, and potentially cross-regional scale. As a leader, the Logistics Manager focuses on developing and coaching team members to make the right decisions, improve organizational culture, and take responsibility. They evangelize accountability and emphasize its importance in creating a strong culture throughout the organization.

Logistics Managers ensure their teams understand the importance of their role, their expectations, and how their success impacts the bigger picture. They demonstrate good judgment in escalation without damaging relationships and build consensus when confronted with discordant views. The Logistics Manager sets or contributes to setting the vision and direction of a designated area while optimizing processes, standards, and functions. They design team structures and mechanisms to meet both short- and long-term business goals, proactively mitigate risks, and ensure outcomes are auditable and data-driven.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. The team supports all AWS data centers and ensures customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll collaborate with software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to deliver the highest standards for safety, security, and capacity at the lowest possible cost.

Responsibilities

  • Guarantee the organization runs smoothly, ensuring service meets the expectations and needs of customers and the business on a daily, monthly, and yearly basis.
  • Develop performance goals and objectives to achieve customer promise expectations and ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Build and execute productivity plans by reviewing work forecasts, determining productivity requirements, and balancing labor with other Logistics Managers.
  • Determine timelines that meet business and customer expectations and ensure they are met.
  • Partner with the management team to establish and maintain quality control standards.
  • Remove roadblocks and obstacles for major initiatives.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for communication and escalation to both internal and external teams/customers.
  • Develop team strategies, vision, and goals in alignment with the broader organization.
  • Ensure operational practices are fully compliant with legislation and policy.
  • Generate and filter information from higher levels of management to their teams.
  • Create, manage, and support recognition and communication programs.
  • Manage and drive staffing plans, schedules, quality initiatives, performance levels, and process change initiatives.
  • Facilitate team coordination and cohesion.
  • Maintain a strong focus on personal and team growth and development.
  • Support projects outside of day-to-day operations.
  • Distribute new opportunities fairly among the team.
  • Hold regularly scheduled 1:1s with a focus on personal development.
  • Ensure accountability and documentation on coaching opportunities.
  • Open new requisitions and raise the bar with new internal hires.
  • Champion continuous improvement by driving process standardization across the organization.
  • Contribute to operational deployment plans outlining critical and best-practice launch activities.
  • Teach how to create documents, processes, tools, and metrics that reflect outcomes.
  • Conduct post-deployment evaluations to measure launch effectiveness (PDSA).
  • Advise team members on process improvement strategies.
  • Conduct audits using a standardized checklist.
  • Lead team meetings and represent Logistics locally and/or globally.
  • Travel between sites and across the cluster based on team and business needs.
  • Ensure team compliance with policies (e.g., information security, data handling, PCI, accessibility, service level agreements).
  • Determine if appropriate metrics are in place to measure customer experience and define them if not.
  • Set up operational metrics, customer intake mechanisms, team training, and documentation (e.g., tutorials, help pages, troubleshooting).
  • Prioritize root cause resolution, automation, and projects that improve customer experience, deliverable quality, and team environment.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of Information Technology (IT) experience, or a Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of people management experience.
  • 2+ years of operations and on-call support for data center facilities, mission-critical plants, or production facilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of computer hardware components and operating systems.
  • Experience with Warehouse Management Software / Inventory Management Software.
  • Familiarity with waybills and shipping procedures with transport companies.

Pay

USA, OH, New Albany - $65,000.00 - $113,800.00 USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
