About the role
This position involves data processing and maintaining all agency, criminal history, and financial records. You will serve as the reception point for the public, attorneys, and courts, while managing both physical and digital files. The role includes performing inmate record checks for law enforcement agencies and providing inmate photographs as needed.
Responsibilities
- Process Weekender/Work Release/Community Service paperwork and maintain statistics.
- Receive and release individuals to work assignments.
- Communicate and coordinate with the courts.
- Take fingerprints and collect fingerprint fees.
- Process indictments for service, subpoenas, warrants, and expunctions; check for deceased inmates and maintain files.
- Clean, correct, and file all inmate bookings received.
- Enter DPS and FBI numbers and additional data from rap sheets into the computer and file rap sheets.
- Assist all criminal justice personnel with record check information requests.
- Complete CR43 forms and send to DPS Austin to report arrests made.
- Process ID badges for department personnel, bonding companies, department volunteers, and the DA’s office.
- Receive proceeds for copies of background checks.
- Schedule attorney visits.
- Print daily financial reports, collect fees from inmate accounts, and prepare deposits.
- Verify check copies and money receipts.
- Process requests for indigent inmate supplies, inmate grievances, and other inmate financial requests.
- Maintain commissary and phone vendor accounting and reporting.
- Maintain medical accountings and reporting.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliation for inmate accounts and monthly financial reports.
- Process bonds, all bond-related paperwork, and maintain a bond maintenance spreadsheet.
- Perform filing and data processing.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others in writing and verbally.
Skills
- Knowledge of principles and procedures of record keeping.
- Familiarity with modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment.
- Ability to work independently with or without supervision.
- Ability to handle work environments involving close contact with others and irregular working hours.
- Effective audio-visual discrimination and perception for making observations, reading, writing, operating equipment, and communicating.
- Ability to maintain mental capacity for exercising sound judgment and rational thinking under stressful circumstances.
- Capability to evaluate options and alternatives and choose appropriate courses of action.
- Demonstrated intellectual capabilities during training.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; bend and kneel; and talk and hear.
- Frequently required to stand and walk up and down stairs.
- Must frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 20 pounds or more, such as books and stacks of records.
- Ability to operate assigned equipment.
- May occasionally perform acts of intense physical exertion during emergency situations.
- Use of vision and depth perception, including color vision, is required.
Work Environment
- Jail environment with potential emergency situations.
- Close work environment with irregular working hours.
- Possible exposure to body fluids, armed and dangerous persons, and communicable diseases.
- Moderate to loud noise levels.
