Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administer an efficient and timely distribution and delivery network including order and invoice processing, carrier interface and scheduling, and customer/production/sales interface.
  • Ensures the safe and efficient handling and shipment of products via truck, railroad, and river barge.
  • Maintains performance of rail, truck, and barge fleets to meet production as forecast requirements.
  • Manages 3rd party contract rail switching and 3rd party harbor towing activities.
  • Contacts railroad operations personnel and management to address rail billing and operational issues.
  • Manages plant relationship with the company that provides railcar EDI billing, and plant rail operations via Yardmaster®, along with TMS - the system for automated driver access for loading.
  • Develops a framework for supply chain performance measurement to help Westlake promote a better understanding and visibility into our costs, volumes, and asset performance measurements.
  • Serves as SAP subject matter expert for Truck, Rail and Barge billing and shipping functions, which includes being the primary contact for all SAP questions and issues at the facility and identifying and requesting improvements to the existing processes.
  • Affirms plant's quality performance by meeting customer requirements 100% of the time, providing facilities and expertise for monitoring product quality, developing specialized techniques, and conducting special investigative work in support of customer and/or plant needs.
  • Counsels programs to encourage business growth through an improving customer relations climate by providing and facilitating technical assistance to customers, materials handling training programs, evaluations and recommendations associated with customer problems and manages the plant’s response and interface to Corporate customer complaint system.
  • Ensures complete compliance with applicable transportation related regulations- Department of Transportation, PHMSA, TSA, IATA, IMDG, and United States Coast Guard. Provides regulatory interpretation.
  • Collaborates with Corporate compliance and product stewardship to establish plant compliance with supply chain stewardship management system elements, including and maintaining packaging specifications and working with a MOC process to manage change.
  • Coordinates with Westlake’s sales team to review / approve customer specification changes, customer visits, and audit requests.
  • Participates in site Hazmat Response Team and supports coordination of transportation response and incidents.

Educational, Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Logistics / Supply Chain Management or a highly related area of study is preferred.
  • Applicable experience in customer service, shipping, and / or logistics; understanding of applicable transportation regulations, AAR and Coast Guard.
  • Strong track record of success in making informed decisions, identifying and resolving operational, planning, and logistics issues in a complex manufacturing environment, and implementing strategies and taking action to optimize operational performance.
  • Strong background and skillset with SAP and supply chain / asset optimization software tools.
  • Excellent project, team leadership, and influencing skills.

Physical Demands

  • Mainly performs duties in an office setting; physical presence is required.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, grasping, holding, pushing or pulling, twisting, and working with tools.
  • Frequent talking and hearing.
  • Regular lifting and moving up to 5 pounds, frequent lifting and moving up to 10 pounds, and occasional lifting and moving up to 25 pounds.
  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to see details of objects that are more/less than a few feet away, see differences between colors, shades and brightness and determine the distance between objects.
  • Response to audible emergency alarms inside of the plant.
  • Ability to evacuate when required.

Work Environment

  • Enclosed spaces and exposure to various hazards.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office.
  • Some of the work may be required in the operating units, which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, flame retardant clothing, etc.
  • May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.
  • Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
