About the Role
Michael Foods, Inc. is a leader in the food processing and distribution industry, specializing in egg products, refrigerated grocery, and potato products. This position is located at the Wakefield facility, one of the largest production plants within Michael Foods, which operates as a flex plant producing a variety of egg products including whole pasteurized eggs, liquid, dried, hardboiled eggs, and curds.
Responsibilities
- Oversee dryer packagers, accurately record readings, moistures, and adjustments, and perform minor mechanical repairs.
- Comply with Safety work rules at all times and reinforce Safety as a Core Value.
- Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and activities related to Food Safety & Quality to reduce product and process variability.
- Demonstrate proficiency and commitment to the Level I checklist for operators.
- Follow all Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) procedures for safe operation.
- Properly use and handle chemicals, perform pre-operational inspections for sanitation, and complete the master sanitation schedule daily.
- Sanitize the heat exchanger and continuously check code dates/labels and product quality.
- Monitor and maintain maximum pounds per hour for products, complete all required paperwork, and distribute it properly.
- Continuously monitor case weights and make minor equipment adjustments and troubleshoot problems.
- Operate all dryers, including start-up and shutdown procedures.
- Understand and make adjustments for air flow, solids, scales, machines, agglomerated product, crystallization tanks, etc.
- Review and correct packaging deficiencies with the stacker and filler, inspect sifter overflow, and empty as needed.
- Record gauge readings hourly and check for wear on nozzles, replacing them as needed based on spray pattern.
- Boil out lines, perform pump tear-downs, and reassemble them.
- Set up and follow procedures for CIP/COP, dust collector, packing room, filter press, fall restraint system, catwalk equipment, etc.
- Review vat selection for sequences and properly collect, process, and record data and samples.
- Perform metal detector checks and Sieve tests every 2 hours and when switching shifts.
- Assemble and set up tapers and pumps, read production order sheets, make skid tags, and identify ID labels and product descriptions.
- Calibrate moisture machine, solids machine, and pH meter.
- Understand causes for wet downs, organizational sequence of pallets in the Hot Room, effects of high pressures on membrane performance, and egg clarification for Lyso process.
- Make and mix culture, siphon, SLS for feed vats, yeast, etc.
- Make proper connections for egg runs and CIP lyso lines.
- Perform resins regeneration process and transfer resin out of or into columns.
- Dump recon and add it to de-sugar silos and feed vats.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and adhere to safe work practices, GMPs, and maintain sanitary conditions to ensure product quality.
- Report any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality, or personnel safety to management.
- Assume personal responsibility for maintaining a safe and healthy workplace by adhering to all safety policies and procedures.
- Work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
- Ensure regulatory compliance at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
- Ability to troubleshoot minor mechanical issues.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a company pallet jack and forklift license; experience with pallet jack and/or forklift preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors, or employees of the organization.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to perform arithmetic operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Demonstrate open and honest communication and maintain positive interpersonal relationships.
- Able to work safely and lift/carry up to 50 lbs.
- Able to work independently or in a team environment.
- Self-motivated, willing to ask questions, and seek direction.
- Displays responsible behavior at work and is open to change.
- Ability to work in cold, wet, noisy, dusty, and humid environments.
- Ability to work around required cleaning solutions.

- Able to stand on hard surfaces for most of the shift, ascend/descend stairs, bend, stoop or crouch, grasp, and reach.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to load and unload egg and material trailers.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
- Prior manufacturing experience.
