Locum Hospitalist position in Ketchikan, AK paying $195/hour - $200/hour.

About the role

This is a temporary locum tenens assignment lasting 13 weeks, starting 10-26-26. The role involves providing hospitalist care in a critical access facility.

Schedule and Coverage

  • Scheduled shifts with no call required
  • Standard 3, 12-hour shifts: 07:00 - 19:00

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the care of hospitalized patients, from admission through diagnosis, treatment, and discharge planning
  • Ensure continuity of care by collaborating with other healthcare professionals
  • Coordinate with specialists to manage complex cases and provide comprehensive care
  • Thoroughly document patient care in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Conduct daily rounds to assess patient progress, update treatment plans, and address new concerns
  • Perform procedures such as intubations and central lines at facilities without a designated critical care physician
  • Communicate with patients and families to explain diagnoses, treatment plans, and answer questions
  • Respond to emergency situations and provide immediate medical intervention
  • Collaborate with case managers and social workers to develop safe and effective discharge plans

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school
  • Residency training in internal medicine or family medicine accredited by ACGME or AOA
  • Board certification in internal medicine or family medicine by ABIM or AOBIM
  • Active and unrestricted medical license in Alaska
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • At least one year of clinical experience preferred

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of internal medicine with the ability to diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions
  • Capable of making sound decisions in rapidly changing or emergency situations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Efficiently manage large patient loads
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive patient care
  • Flexibility to adapt to new work environments and different medical teams

Pay

$195/hour - $200/hour
