About the role
This position supervises a team of locksmiths who perform expert level locksmithing in systems maintenance. This includes repairing and adjusting mechanical and electronic locking devices, fitting and repairing deadbolts, mortise locks, panic hardware, door closures, and ADA-compliant openers. It also involves changing lock tumblers, setting up new lock cylinders, modifying mechanical or digital keying hierarchies, performing non-destructive entry methods or picking locks, and ensuring facility security.
Responsibilities
- Repairs and adjusts mechanical and electronic locking devices
- Fits and repairs deadbolts, mortise locks, panic hardware, door closures, and ADA-compliant openers
- Changes lock tumblers, sets up new lock cylinders, and modifies mechanical or digital keying hierarchies
- Performs non-destructive entry methods or picks locks to assist clients who have lost access to authorized locations, vehicles, or secure containers
- Maintains accurate logs of keys distributed, inventory used, and assigned work orders to ensure facility security
- Maintains the key and lock schedules and records for all campus facilities
- Ensures compliance with departmental and University Records Retention Requirements
Requirements
- Standing or walking with objects up to 25lbs; Sitting at computer workstation for extended periods; Repetitive motion
- May be exposed to loud noises, fumes, confined spaces, and/or weather/temperature extremes while on or traveling to/from various job site(s)
- Shift: 7:30am – 4:15pm (Monday – Friday); Hours of work may vary dependent upon situational factors, operational events, emergencies, and/or crisis management requiring night(s), weekend(s), and holiday(s) response
Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree + 7 Years of related experience
- MS Windows/Office; MS Project; SAP; KRONOS
- Driver’s License (preferred)
- Demonstrated experience as a specialized locksmith, security technician, vehicle servicing technician, forensic investigations expertise, and fire door inspection disciplines (highly preferred)
- Strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to safely operate hand and power tools
- Familiarity with local building, fire, and life safety codes as well as ADA standards
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
