This position is classified as an Essential Position, requiring the employee to be present at work even during University closures or delayed starts/early closures.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–3:30 PM.
Responsibilities
- Perform skilled installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of mechanical, pneumatic, and electronically controlled locks and devices.
- Install new locking mechanisms in compliance with applicable codes and specifications.
- Troubleshoot key and locking device problems.
- Perform repairs, adjustments, and parts replacement.
- Disassemble, reset or re-pin, and reassemble locks.
- Fabricate master and replacement keys.
- Maintain inventories and records of locks and keys.
- Access and utilize software platforms to diagnose and address issues with electronically controlled locks, including both mechanical and electronic components.
- Obtain CIL (Certified Institutional Locksmith) certification during the probationary period if not already certified.
Requirements
- Three years of professional experience in the installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of locks and peripherals, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Possession of an active motor vehicle license.
- Three years of experience with BEST interchangeable core systems and master key hierarchy development.
- Knowledge of the methods, materials, and practices of the locksmithing trade.
Qualifications
Preferred:
- CIL (Certified Institutional Locksmith) certification.
- Five years of experience in the installation, repair, replacement, and maintenance of locks and peripherals, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Two years of work experience with card access/electronic lock systems.
- One year of experience in keying system design.
- One year of prior work experience in a Facilities, construction, or education environment.
- Prior work experience utilizing Schlage and/or Best Key Systems.
- Prior work experience utilizing SMS/Vanderbilt Schlage software.
- Prior work experience utilizing CMMS and/or WebTMA.
- Continuing education and/or professional development within the locksmith and/or electronic access controls environment in the last five years.
Pay
Starting salary: $41,506.00, based on the AFSCME Collective Bargaining Agreement.
