About the role

Under the direction of the Area Operations Manager, this exempt role supervises the operations of an assigned location, including scheduling, logistics, product handling, rolling stock, and on-site customer sales. The position assists in developing and implementing plans that maximize location profitability while providing leadership, customer relations, staff management, and operational excellence to support agricultural needs.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, lead, and develop full-time and part-time employees required to operate the location.
  • Train employees to comply with state, federal, and company regulatory policies and safety criteria.
  • Order products, control inventory, and manage shipping/receiving.
  • Schedule product delivery and oversee product application to maximize profitability.
  • Oversee plant operations, including dry fertilizer blending and loading, anhydrous ammonia handling, ag chemical mixing, liquid fertilizer handling, energy propane management, and seed product handling.
  • Maintain and ensure the appearance of assigned equipment, rolling stock, and facilities.
  • Attend required meetings and training programs.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing professional development opportunities.
  • Oversee daily operations, including product handling, logistics, and inventory management.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships, addressing needs and providing expert product advice.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and resolve issues promptly to ensure satisfaction.
  • Manage the operational budget to ensure cost-effective practices and maintain profitability.
  • Support the annual budgeting process with recommendations and coordination.
  • Collaborate with sales teams on company products and services to identify growth opportunities.
  • Uphold, implement, and enforce the company’s employee policy manual and safety policies.
  • Follow GROWMARK’s Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Program, Environmental Health and Safety, OSHA, and DOT policies and procedures.
  • Maintain assigned vehicles and company equipment according to company standards.
  • Comply with the uniform policy and uphold a professional appearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience preferred).
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience with agricultural technology and precision farming tools.
  • Supervisory experience demonstrating strong leadership in managing a location is preferred.
  • Proven experience in agricultural retail operations is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of retail agricultural products.
  • In-depth understanding, knowledge, and proven experience in agricultural operations management, including principles and practices.
  • Experience in fieldwork and data collection is preferred.
  • Physical ability to perform fieldwork and operate equipment.

Other Requirements

  • Obtain a valid CDL with required endorsements (e.g., HazMat, Tanker) within six months of employment and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Obtain all required federal and state pesticide licenses within the first six months of employment.
  • Follow safety and compliance standards to ensure personal well-being and the safety of others.
  • Ability to work hours outside normal schedules as needed to meet deadlines and demands.
  • Occasional travel to other company locations or industry events, including independent overnight travel as required.
  • Willingness to participate in required training, including GROWMARK’s policies and procedures and position-specific education.
