Locate Trainer
About the role
This position works with management to analyze training needs for new hire classes. Responsible for developing and conducting technical training programs pertaining to locate sites and ensuring training program implementation is in accordance with Olameter requirements and customer guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Implements a comprehensive training program which is focused on technical knowledge and skill improvement.
- Confer with Management and Supervisors to Identify training needs and develop new programs.
- Analyze job requirements and project performance to determine training needs.
- Reviews training materials, tools, exam questions, and exams, updates as necessary.
- Work directly with the technical training staff to ensure all documents are completed during training.
- Reinforce the company's safety and productivity objectives by training for proper locate techniques.
- Instructing on the importance of following safety procedures and the impact when procedures are not followed.
- Determine instructional methods for training and develop effective training materials using technical aids including handbooks, multimedia, visuals, computer tutorials, and demonstration models.
- Conduct classroom, simulator, and practical training courses on utility locate procedures.
- Develop and utilize assessment tools to monitor comprehension of concepts.
- Report employee progress to Managers and Supervisors.
- Maintain training records for employees.
- Plan, organize, schedule, and order supplies for training events.
- Work effectively as a team member with members of management and the human resources staff.
- Keep updated on incidents in the field, interfacing on occasion with Managers, employees, and/or customer(s).
- Conduct and document evaluations of training programs and course effectiveness, make modifications as necessary.
- All other duties as assigned in accordance with the specific project.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license.
- Upon employment, subject to random drug testing in compliance with DOT guidelines.
- Must be able to work overtime when duties cannot be performed within a normal work schedule.
- Minimum two (2) years utility related experience that includes utility line locating. Gas and Electric locating is a plus.
- Training and/or Instructional design experience a plus.
- Possession of reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, registration, and proof of insurance.
- Must be physically able to drive to job sites covering the operation service area.
- The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction/technical/utility areas.
- Leadership and communication skills to effectively direct trainees while in a training class environment.
Working Conditions And Hours
- Outdoor work environment.
- Driving company vehicle to and from work sites.
- Normal working hours are 7:30am-5pm, Monday through Friday; weekend work required when needed.
- May be required to walk up to 10-15 miles daily which includes walking at a brisk pace, climbing stairs and walking on unpaved/rough terrain areas.
- Ability to perform physical duties such as lifting to 50 lbs. unassisted, walking, kneeling, twisting, turning, stooping, reaching, and bending; getting in and out of vehicle.
