Local News Producer

About the role

WBAL-TV is seeking a Local News Producer who can create meaningful and memorable newscasts. You will have creative vision, make decisions, and communicate the plan effectively. The role involves winning big stories, managing breaking news, and displaying critical weather information with accuracy as the top priority. This position reports to the Executive Producer.

Responsibilities

• Select, research, and write content for live newscasts to create an "experience" for viewers.
• Work with and guide reporters in story production.
• Coordinate creative vision with anchors, reporters, meteorologists, photographers, editors, and production staff.
• Booth assigned newscasts, breaking news, and weather events.
• Live time newscasts to ensure smooth execution.

Requirements

• Professional or college producing experience.
• Experience working in a newsroom.
• Strong writing and copy-editing skills.
• Ability to coordinate multiple crews and responsibilities simultaneously.
• Skill in summarizing information into easy-to-understand components.
• Creative presentation style with the ability to showcase resources and elements effectively.
• Highest journalistic integrity and ethical standards.
• Availability to work holidays, shifts including nights, weekends, and overnights, and flexibility during breaking news.
• In-person attendance is required.
• Related military experience will be considered.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $48,000 - $53,000.
