Local News Producer

About the role

WBAL-TV is seeking a Local News Producer who can create meaningful and memorable newscasts. The ideal candidate has a creative vision, experience making decisions, and strong communication skills. You will work in a fast-paced environment, handling breaking news, weather, and major stories while maintaining accuracy as the top priority. This role reports to the Executive Producer.

Responsibilities

• Select, research, and write content for live newscasts to create an engaging viewer experience
• Work with and guide reporters in story production
• Coordinate creative vision with anchors, reporters, meteorologists, photographers, editors, and production staff
• Booth assigned newscasts, breaking news, and weather events
• Live timing of newscasts
• Summarize information into easy-to-understand components
• Maintain the highest journalistic integrity and ethical standards

Requirements

• Professional or college producing experience
• Newsroom experience
• Strong writing and copy-editing skills
• Ability to coordinate multiple crews and responsibilities simultaneously
• Creative presentation style with the ability to showcase resources and elements effectively
• Availability to work holidays, nights, weekends, overnights, and flexible hours during breaking news
• In-person attendance is required
• Related military experience will be considered

Pay

$48,000 - $53,000 per year
