Local contract opportunity for a Physical Therapist in Clarksdale, MS.

About the role

The Physical Therapist will primarily provide outpatient rehabilitation services in an in-home setting for the older adult population. The in-home setting could be a patient's private residence or in a patient's room in an independent living facility. This role allows the Physical Therapist to evaluate and treat in the most functional environment—the patient's home.

The Physical Therapist assesses the need for, develops, and delivers physical therapy programs to facilitate rehabilitation, identifies the need for and makes referrals to other disciplines, and implements individualized therapy programs designed to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance. They instruct, educate, and train patients and caregivers in skills essential for promoting independence and productivity, and direct activities to promote and maintain health. This position offers a flexible schedule and work environment in various settings.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Physical Therapy Assistants, temporary licensees, students, and support personnel in accordance with state licensure requirements and professional standards.
• Adhere to department and patient treatment schedules, timely clinical and billing documentation requirements, and work-related meetings.
• Attend and contribute to patient care, staffing conferences, and other related meetings.
• Make referrals to other disciplines and agencies to address the comprehensive needs of the patient.
• Consult with members of the rehabilitation team to select the most appropriate therapeutic regimen consistent with patient needs and capabilities.
• Adapt programs and/or plans of care according to the needs of individual patients.
• Promote a safe environment and enforce the elimination of fire and safety hazards.
• Order supplies and equipment as necessary; clean, maintain, identify, and report the need for repair of equipment.
• Prioritize patient service, ensuring patients and families receive high-quality care in a compassionate atmosphere.
• Screen, examine, and evaluate patients, including history, systems review, and application of appropriate tests and measures.
• Synthesize information and interpret examination findings to establish a diagnosis, identify impairments, and determine the predicted level of improvement and time required.
• Develop appropriate treatment goals and methods in collaboration with patients and caregivers, implement the physical therapy treatment plan, and complete all related documentation.
• Provide services including but not limited to:
  • Therapeutic exercise (aerobic capacity conditioning, balance coordination, agility training, body mechanics, postural stabilization, flexibility exercises, gait and locomotion training, neuromotor development training, relaxation, strength, power, and endurance training).
  • Functional training.
  • Manual therapy.
  • Airway clearance techniques.
  • Integumentary repair and protection.
  • Use of electrotherapeutic, physical agent, and mechanical modalities.
  • Health and wellness education on chronic disease management.
  • Falls assessment and interventions to reduce fall risk.
  • Case management in the home and community.
  • Design, fabrication, fitting, and/or application of adaptive devices, including orthotics and prosthetics.
• Select appropriate activities suited to the individual's physical and mental capacity, intelligence level, and interest.
• Instruct patients in skills and techniques required for participation in mobility activities and evaluate patient progress, attitudes, and behavior related to rehabilitative potential.
• Perform routine reexamination as needed to modify or progress the plan of treatment.
• Incorporate health and wellness programming into treatment plans.
• Perform home and community mobility assessments and provide recommendations for safe mobility.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Valid Physical Therapy license in the state(s) of practice or proof of license eligibility.
• Master’s degree in Physical Therapy; or Master’s degree in a Physical Therapy-related field plus a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy; or Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy plus 5 years of progressively responsible PT experience.
• Qualifying Physical Therapy degree earned outside the U.S. must be evaluated as equivalent to a U.S. degree in Physical Therapy.
• Valid driver’s license or reliable, independent transportation to and from patients’ residences.

• 40 hours per week, 8-hour shifts (08:00 AM - 04:30 PM)
