About the role
The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) to provide occupational therapy services that support students in achieving their educational goals. The COTA collaborates with occupational therapists, teachers, school administrators, related service providers, parents, and district staff to implement treatment plans that promote students' independence, participation, and success within the school environment.
Qualifications
- Current CA Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license
- Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
- Knowledge of pediatric development, sensory integration, fine motor development, and adaptive equipment
- Ability to implement treatment plans developed by a licensed Occupational Therapist
- Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, school personnel, and multidisciplinary teams
Essential Job Functions
- Implement occupational therapy treatment plans developed by the supervising Occupational Therapist
- Provide direct occupational therapy services to students individually and in small groups
- Assist students in developing fine motor, visual motor, sensory processing, self-care, and functional skills necessary for success in the educational environment
- Document student progress and maintain accurate treatment records in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families to support student progress toward IEP goals
- Assist with classroom adaptations, accommodations, positioning, and adaptive equipment as directed by the Occupational Therapist
- Observe student performance and communicate progress and concerns to the supervising Occupational Therapist
- Participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings, and professional development as appropriate
- Maintain compliance with district policies, state regulations, and professional standards of practice
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising Occupational Therapist or district administration
Pay
- $31-$37 per hour, based on experience and assignment
