Local Contract Cardiac Telemetry Registered Nurse - $37-44 per hour

About the role

We’re seeking talented healthcare professionals for a local contract nursing position in Salisbury, North Carolina. This is a fast-paced, high-volume telemetry unit serving as the primary cardiac and stroke unit.

Responsibilities

• Care for stable pre/post-procedure cardiac patients, including pacemaker implantation, implanted cardioverter/defibrillators, and cardiac catheterization
• Manage TR bands and post uncomplicated interventional peripheral vascular/cardiac interventions without sheaths
• Monitor and care for patients with non-rebreather masks (stable O₂ saturation on pulse oximetry), unstable angina, low-risk chest pain, CHF, dysrhythmias, new CVAs, and TIAs
• Administer and titrate multiple cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone)
• Handle high patient turnover—unit averages 78 to 90 patients per week, meaning a 6-patient assignment may fully turnover during a shift
• Float as required, with weekend requirements: every other weekend, plus 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays in a 6-week period
• Use unit systems: Pyxis, Dimensions (EPIC), SBAR
• Self-schedule within unit guidelines and leadership oversight
• Adhere to blackout dates: 04/18/2025–04/20/2025 (Easter), 05/23/2025–05/26/2025 (Memorial Day), 06/19/2025 (Juneteenth)
• Pass EKG testing prior to start

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a challenging, high-acuity telemetry unit with similar patient ratios
• Experience with IV starts, telemetry monitoring, cardiac drips, and PCI patients
• Certifications: ACLS, BCLS, NIH
• Comfortable with target ratios of 1:5–6 (must be able to handle 6 patients)
• Unit accepts first-time travelers and local candidates (rate difference applies)
• Scrubs: Navy blue, white, or a mix; jackets must match uniform material and color
• 36-hour orientation (travelers must be available every day during the first week)

Unit Details

• Primary cardiac and stroke unit with high patient turnover (78–90 patients/week)
• Team lead available to assist with admissions and discharges
• Unit houses COVID-positive patients using opti-flow and BiPAP during surges
• Special equipment: Telemetry, pulse oximetry, high-flow O₂ (stable patients), non-rebreather masks (palliative only), BiPAP (chronic use only)
• Exclusions: No unstable O₂ with BiPAP, non-rebreather, respiratory rate >35, O₂ sat 60mEq/L, or new BiPAP

Schedule

• 12-hour night shifts
• 36 hours per week (no OT until after 48 hours billed)
• Duration: 13–26 weeks (flexible)
• Self-scheduling with leadership oversight
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend, plus 2 Mondays and 2 Fridays in a 6-week period
• Blackout dates: 04/18/2025–04/20/2025 (Easter), 05/23/2025–05/26/2025 (Memorial Day), 06/19/2025 (Juneteenth)
