About the Role
The main function of this position is to proactively solicit new residential mortgage clients while developing and cultivating a strong business network of referrals. The Loan Officer analyzes borrowers' financial and credit data to determine creditworthiness and the probability of financial security in repayment efforts.
Responsibilities
- Originates sales by contacting prospective clients and developing/maintaining referral sources.
- Spends at least one or two hours daily, two or more times a week outside the office (including a home office) originating loans.
- Meets with prospective clients at locations other than PRMI’s offices (e.g., client’s home).
- Sells mortgage loan products/packages through in-person client meetings; uses telephone, mail, and email as adjunct communication.
- Obtains credit information and necessary documentation for the application process.
- Makes in-person calls on real estate agents, brokers, financial advisors, and other potential referral sources to develop borrower leads.
- Engages in marketing and promotional activities to support sales.
- Develops new and continued business opportunities by cultivating relationships with realtors, builders, bankers, and other referral sources.
- Develops solid PRMI product knowledge and matches clients with the best mortgage products.
- Reviews application information and requests supporting documentation based on loan investor guidelines.
- Analyzes and exercises independent judgment in advancing PRMI’s business objectives and customer interests regarding significant financial decisions.
- Collects and analyzes customer financial data (income, assets, investments, debts) to determine suitable financial products.
- Provides advice on the advantages and disadvantages of available financial products.
- Markets, services, or promotes PRMI’s financial products.
- Completes continuing education requirements and stays current on local real estate and mortgage industry trends.
- Provides origination services in the state of licensure.
- Creates and maintains excellent business relationships with referral clients to generate new mortgage lending opportunities.
- Coordinates with clients, in-house support staff, and external service providers to facilitate timely closings.
Requirements
- Sales experience in the mortgage industry is preferred.
- Familiarity with mortgage processes, procedures, rules, regulations, and compliance.
- Exceptional customer service skills with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of MS Office.
- Ability to comprehend and analyze financial information.
- Ability to effectively communicate and present complex financial information while responding to questions from applicants, support staff, and management.
- Established contact and referral list within the real estate and mortgage industries is preferred.
- Ability to pass a required background check.
- Must maintain eligibility for FLSA classification as Outside Sales Exempt and complete the bi-annual certification process.
- Must communicate clearly and effectively, utilize a computer, maintain a work schedule, and perform effectively in an office setting.
- Compliance with all applicable mortgage and fair lending laws and PRMI policies is required.
- Ability to work extended hours may be required.
