Loader Operator

About the Role

A Loader Operator operates straight or articulated rubber-tired tractor-type vehicles equipped with front-mounted hydraulically powered buckets or scoops to lift and transport bulk materials to and from storage or processing areas, feed conveyors, hoppers, or chutes, and load trucks or railcars.

• Starts engine, shifts gears, presses pedals, and turns steering wheel to operate loader.
• Moves levers to lower and tilt bucket and drives front-end loader forward to force bucket into bulk material.
• Moves levers to raise and tilt bucket when filled, drives vehicle to work site, and moves levers to dump material.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the stockyard, including pushing piles when stock arrives and notifying management when stock is needed.
• Keep bins stocked with material while the asphalt plant is running.
• Perform daily inspection of vehicle at the plant, including:
  • Maintaining fluids at normal operating levels.
  • Keeping the autogreaser full of grease.
  • Greasing all grease fittings.
  • Cleaning filters and changing them when needed.
• Provide physical labor to shovel material as needed.
• Assist with picking up debris and maintaining a clean environment at the plant.
• Assist with maintenance and repairs as needed.

Physical Requirements

• The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or vehicle to exact positions.
• The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
• The ability to quickly respond (with the hand, finger, or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears.
• The ability to recognize when something is wrong or likely to go wrong.
• The ability to time movements or equipment in anticipation of changes in speed and/or direction of moving objects.
• The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (e.g., two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down.
• The ability to see details at close range and at a distance and judge distances between objects.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Ability and willingness to follow verbal instructions.
• Reliable transportation.
• Minimum 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment.
• Ability to work overtime, nights, and weekends as projects demand.
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test and random tests during employment.
