About the role

The Load Checker safely and efficiently performs the "checking of loads" for all orders, including both deliveries and large will call orders. This role ensures 100% accuracy of properly tagged orders with the correct type, size, and quantity of materials, proper sequence of materials in the load, and damage-free goods. This position is essential for ensuring loads are "on time and in full," saving time by identifying errors before trucks leave the yard. The Load Checker reports directly to the General Manager and interacts daily with Load Builders, Receiving Coordinators, Location Supervisors, Customer Service Employees, and Drivers.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure loads are built safely and accurately by correctly reading "pick tickets" and invoices
  • Help identify damaged material
  • Ensure appropriate paperwork is complete and scanned as per company policy
  • Maintain yard cleanliness during the course of work
  • Follow through with the team to make system corrections when mistakes are made
  • Perform daily safety audits of forklifts and promptly report any malfunctioning equipment
  • Assist with the prevention of material damage
  • Identify areas of opportunity for best practices pertaining to handling products and packaging for adverse weather conditions
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • OSHA Certified Forklift license (training provided)
  • Minimum of 1 year of load building experience preferred
  • Ability to speak, write, and read English required
  • Knowledge of how loads need to be properly labeled, protected, and kept damage-free
  • Ability to tally correct lineal footage totals on orders
  • Ability to read and interpret "picking tickets" and invoices
  • Ability to load and unload materials in a safe manner
  • Must be able to operate forklift, banding machine, tin snips, tape measure, power saws, hand truck, pallet jack, re-fueling stations, and all other equipment necessary for the job
  • Ability to utilize all appropriate safety gear required for this position
  • Must be able to operate personal computer, smartphone, scanner, and all other equipment necessary for the job
  • Two years of load building and/or yard/warehouse experience preferred
  • Two years of experience working with dimensional lumber, panel products, and other building materials preferred
  • Knowledge of receiving and inventory control principles, practices, and protocols preferred
  • Ability to read grades of lumber and other materials preferred
  • Acceptable driving record preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 90 pounds and carry objects 50 feet
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to drive a company vehicle when necessary

Pay

$19.97-$24.23 hourly
