About the role

The Engagement Specialist works as a team member to support the Crisis Care service team and individuals in crisis at the Living Room location. This role provides crisis response services alongside a crisis case manager or other mobile crisis responder, engaging, advocating, supporting, and maintaining direct working relationships with individuals and families during crisis times. Responsibilities include follow-up, community linkage for crisis stability, and coordination with other agencies and professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Provides crisis intervention services within scheduled shifts, including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays (program operates 24/7/365).
  • Responds to crises in person at the Living Room Program location.
  • Works constructively with clients, providers, and the community.
  • Applies knowledge of community resources for referrals and links individuals to services such as medical counseling, housing assistance, energy assistance, WIC, food stamps, and substance abuse providers.
  • Understands and applies the Mental Health Code, Confidentiality Act, and agency policies and procedures.
  • Engages effectively with individuals experiencing mental health, substance abuse, or other community crises using a team-based approach.
  • Collaborates with law enforcement, hospitals, schools, court personnel, therapists, medical personnel, and other professionals.
  • Arranges services beyond the scope of practice for the engagement specialist in coordination with other disciplines.
  • Completes all necessary documentation in adherence to program timelines and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Adheres to mandated reporter requirements.
  • Submits accurate written documentation of all service interactions.
  • Transports individuals (adults and children) following program safety guidelines.
  • Attends and completes required trainings from One Hope United or funders.
  • Testifies in court when subpoenaed or as directed by a supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • CRSS/CPRS certification preferred.
  • Peer engagement or home visiting experience desired.
  • Lived experience as a consumer of mental health or substance abuse services (3 years post-lived experience preferred).
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and acceptable driving record with required auto insurance coverage.
  • General working knowledge of and respect for diverse cultural norms.

Skills

  • Proficient computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment, with adaptability to learn new software applications.
  • Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and communicate clearly verbally.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups or individuals.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Schedule
