Lived Experience Professional Support Specialist - PT
About the role
The Mental Health Association is seeking Lived Experience Professional Support Specialists for its Community Wellness Center in Sussex County. This position operates part-time (20 hours per week).
Responsibilities
- Provide transportation to consumers, as needed.
- Offer culturally competent services tailored to race, age, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation.
- Share personal experiences while delivering strengths-based, person-centered services.
- Engage in and facilitate skill-building sessions in a supportive and collaborative manner.
- Manage case management and link individuals to community supports.
- Support recovery planning and promote evidence-based practices such as Harm Reduction and Motivational Interviewing.
- Advocate effectively and assist in crisis management and de-escalation.
- Promote integration of physical and mental health wellness.
- Foster growth and development for individuals.
- Aid in community integration and provide access to available community supports.
- Attend supervision meetings and agency staff meetings.
- Participate in meetings with program partners and community providers.
- Complete Social Determinants of Health and UCLA Loneliness Assessments.
Requirements
- A High School Diploma or GED equivalent with relevant life experience.
- Knowledge and adherence to SAMHSA's core competencies for peer workers in behavioral health services.
- The ability to engage with individuals and network with community resources.
- The ability to discuss substance use and mental health.
- Adequate awareness of community resources and understanding of eligibility criteria.
- A current and valid driver's license in good standing.
Qualifications

Skills
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to build trust and rapport with diverse populations.
- Experience working with individuals who have mental illness or substance use disorders.
- Knowledge of community resources and eligibility criteria.
- Effective problem-solving and crisis intervention skills.
