Litter Prevention Officer

About the role

The City of Delray Beach seeks a field worker to execute a comprehensive, effective, and efficient program and public education campaigns related to the elimination of litter in designated areas of the City. This position works under general supervision.

Responsibilities

• Aid in the Clean City Program by documenting current conditions, keeping informed of codes and ordinances, exploring alternatives, and implementing best practices.
• Perform clean-up projects in designated areas, remove litter, debris, and graffiti.
• Maintain bus stops in the City by removing litter, trash, and graffiti.
• Keep accurate daily and monthly logs.
• Work with homeowner groups and conduct public education campaigns to increase resident participation in litter abatement and raise public awareness of environmental issues.
• Conduct public presentations and publicize special events.
• Track and manage supplies associated with the litter abatement program, ensure expenses are appropriately documented, and provide progress reports.
• Foster positive employee relations and employee morale on a City-side basis.

Requirements

• High school diploma or an acceptable equivalent, with knowledge of sanitation and litter prevention practices, or three (3) years of related sanitation experience.
• Knowledge of current recycling techniques.
• Knowledge of material processing and collection procedures.
• Knowledge of waste authority policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of basic computer office software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to interface with solid waste haulers.
• Ability to write various reports.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
