About the role
The Litigation Attorney is part of a team of attorneys at the firm with hands-on management of personal injury cases including but not limited to medical malpractice, auto accidents, and premise liability for legal proceedings. This role will lead and provide oversight for a staff of case managers and/or paralegals.
Responsibilities
- Managing a caseload of litigation matters to resolution.
- Examining legal and medical data to determine insurance coverage, liability, and damages.
- Communicating effectively with clients, opposing counsel and insurance companies.
- Ensuring client satisfaction and timely follow-up throughout each case.
- Drafting pleadings, motions, demands and other legal documents.
- Representing clients in negotiations, mediations, court hearings and trials.
- Conducting depositions and interviews with clients, witnesses and experts.
- Preparing for and participating in trial proceedings as necessary.
- Building and establishing relationships in the communities we serve to enhance our brand recognition, marketing efforts and client service.
- Providing ongoing coaching, feedback, and process improvements within the department.
- Conducting legal research and analysis related to personal injury laws, regulations and precedents.
- Staying updated on developments in personal injury litigation law and related areas.
Requirements

- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Must be able to exercise extensive independent judgment to make decisions in carrying out assignments that have substantial impact on the department.
- Excellent written, verbal, and negotiation communication skills.
- Proficient in English, Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
- Able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Commitment to providing high quality legal representation and client service.
- Able to work independently, as part of a team, and cross-departmentally to reach firm goals.
- Must be able to efficiently and effectively utilize a CMS (Client Management System).
- Exhibits a professional and courteous demeanor to team members and the public with demonstrated compassion and empathy for clients, with the ability to de-escalate when needed.
- High level of professionalism and ethical behavior.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in the State Bar of South Carolina with good standing.
- Minimum of 5-7 years demonstrated litigation experience, with a minimum of 3 years working directly in a personal injury law firm required in pre-litigation, WC, or handling of personal injury cases.
- Experience leading and mentoring a team within a legal setting.
- Proven track record of representing clients in court.

- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
