About the role

The Litigation Attorney is part of a team of attorneys at the firm with hands-on management of personal injury cases including but not limited to medical malpractice, auto accidents, and premise liability for legal proceedings. This role will lead and provide oversight for a staff of case managers and/or paralegals.

Responsibilities

  • Managing a caseload of litigation matters to resolution.
  • Examining legal and medical data to determine insurance coverage, liability, and damages.
  • Communicating effectively with clients, opposing counsel and insurance companies.
  • Ensuring client satisfaction and timely follow-up throughout each case.
  • Drafting pleadings, motions, demands and other legal documents.
  • Representing clients in negotiations, mediations, court hearings and trials.
  • Conducting depositions and interviews with clients, witnesses and experts.
  • Preparing for and participating in trial proceedings as necessary.
  • Building and establishing relationships in the communities we serve to enhance our brand recognition, marketing efforts and client service.
  • Providing ongoing coaching, feedback, and process improvements within the department.
  • Conducting legal research and analysis related to personal injury laws, regulations and precedents.
  • Staying updated on developments in personal injury litigation law and related areas.

Requirements

  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to exercise extensive independent judgment to make decisions in carrying out assignments that have substantial impact on the department.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and negotiation communication skills.
  • Proficient in English, Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
  • Able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to providing high quality legal representation and client service.
  • Able to work independently, as part of a team, and cross-departmentally to reach firm goals.
  • Must be able to efficiently and effectively utilize a CMS (Client Management System).
  • Exhibits a professional and courteous demeanor to team members and the public with demonstrated compassion and empathy for clients, with the ability to de-escalate when needed.
  • High level of professionalism and ethical behavior.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the State Bar of South Carolina with good standing.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years demonstrated litigation experience, with a minimum of 3 years working directly in a personal injury law firm required in pre-litigation, WC, or handling of personal injury cases.
  • Experience leading and mentoring a team within a legal setting.
  • Proven track record of representing clients in court.

  • Proficiency in using a CMS (Client Management System).
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Pay

Competitive salary commensurate with experience.

Schedule

Typical Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm.
