Literacy Coach, Alpha - $120,000/year USD

Crossover · Greenwich, CT · 5 days ago
Business Development$120k/yrFull-time

What You Will Be Doing

  • Create small-group K-3 reading workshops based on live adaptive-app data, anchored in structured-literacy approaches (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or equivalent)
  • Lead daily motivation sessions that drive 100% of students to meet weekly app goals through Alpha's motivational model (school currency, leaderboards, age-appropriate gamification)
  • Analyze AI-generated performance metrics (fluency curves, decoding accuracy, comprehension indicators) to modify instruction mid-day, not only during planning time
  • Conduct running records, fluency probes, and decoding assessments to generate gains documented in weekly campus data reviews
  • Serve as the engaging, energetic adult your K-3 students anticipate seeing every day

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Implementing a published reading curriculum, scripted program, or district pacing guide; you create lessons directly from student data
  • Delivering whole-class lectures; all instruction occurs in small, targeted groups while students complete academic subjects through adaptive apps
  • Serving as a reading consultant, teacher coach, or district-level specialist; you work in the classroom with students daily
  • Operating a traditional classroom schedule: subject-by-subject lectures, homework review, test preparation. Your blocks consist of workshops, motivation sessions, and data-informed small groups
  • Drafting IEPs, 504 plans, or formal diagnostic reports; student progress is tracked via app data and your running records, not special-education documentation

Basic Requirements

  • Structured-literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent) OR a Master's degree in reading instruction
  • Bachelor's degree in any field, plus 2+ years of full-time K-3 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical setting within the past 5 years, using systematic phonics or structured literacy
  • Proven capability to design original reading lessons and clearly articulate your instructional content and methods, independent of published programs
  • Availability to work in person full-time at one Alpha campus: Beverly Hills, La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, or Santa Monica, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; or New York City, NY (relocation assistance available)
  • Readiness to work with all K-3 students (not solely struggling readers) and incorporate AI and adaptive-learning tools into daily instruction as these tools develop
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Practical experience with AI-powered or adaptive reading platforms (e.g., Amira, Lexia, i-Ready, Reading Plus) for instructional planning or student data interpretation
  • Documented record of measurable reading outcomes (fluency gains in WCPM, accuracy improvement, decoding level progression) you can quantify
  • Familiarity with diagnostic reading assessments (DRA, DIBELS, AIMSweb) for creating differentiated instructional groups
  • Experience in high-accountability educational settings (independent schools, elite charter schools, premium tutoring with outcome-focused families)
  • Background in performance, youth sports coaching, or other contexts requiring you to engage a K-3 audience beyond the reading classroom
