What You Will Be Doing
- Create small-group K-3 reading sessions informed by real-time adaptive-app analytics, rooted in structured-literacy frameworks (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, LETRS, IMSE, or equivalent)
- Facilitate daily motivation blocks that drive 100% of students to weekly app targets using Alpha's engagement model (campus currency, competitive rankings, age-appropriate gamification)
- Analyze AI-produced performance metrics (fluency trajectories, decoding precision, comprehension indicators) to modify instruction during the day, not only during planning periods
- Conduct running records, fluency assessments, and decoding evaluations to generate progress visible in weekly campus data meetings
- Serve as the engaging, high-energy adult your K-3 students are excited to see daily
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Implementing a commercial reading curriculum, scripted lesson sequence, or district scope-and-sequence; you build lessons directly from student performance data
- Teaching whole-class sessions; all instruction occurs in small, targeted groups while students progress through core subjects via adaptive technology
- Serving as a reading consultant, instructional coach for other educators, or district-level resource; you teach students in the classroom daily
- Managing a conventional classroom schedule: subject-specific lectures, homework correction, test preparation. Your timetable consists of workshop sessions, motivation blocks, and data-informed small groups
- Drafting IEPs, 504 plans, or formal psychoeducational reports; student growth is tracked through app metrics and your running records, not special-education documentation
Basic Requirements
- Structured-literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent) OR a Master's degree in reading instruction
- Bachelor's degree in any discipline, plus 2+ years of full-time K-3 structured reading instruction in a school or clinical environment within the past 5 years, employing systematic phonics or structured literacy
- Proven capacity to independently design reading lessons and clearly articulate instructional content and methods, without dependence on a commercial program
- Availability to work on-site full-time at one Alpha campus: Beverly Hills, La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, or Santa Monica, CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, FL; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA; or New York City, NY (relocation assistance available)
- Readiness to instruct all K-3 students (not exclusively struggling readers) and incorporate AI and adaptive-learning technologies into daily practice as these tools develop
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
Nice-to-have Requirements
- Practical experience with AI-driven or adaptive reading platforms (e.g., Amira, Lexia, i-Ready, Reading Plus) for instructional planning or student performance analysis
- Documented reading outcomes (fluency gains in WCPM, accuracy improvement, decoding level progression) you can specify with data
- Familiarity with diagnostic reading instruments (DRA, DIBELS, AIMSweb) for differentiated group formation
- Experience in high-accountability educational settings (independent schools, elite charter networks, premium tutoring with results-focused families)
- Background in performance arts, youth sports coaching, or other contexts requiring sustained engagement of K-3 audiences beyond the reading classroom
