Literacy Classroom Aide (36054)

About the role

Buffalo Hearing & Speech Center is hiring a temporary part-time Literacy Classroom Aide for our after-school literacy program at area charter schools. This position runs twice a week from approximately 3:30p – 5pm, starting in October through the end of December, for a total of 20 sessions paid at $66.50 per session.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the management of children and the classroom environment.
• Organize and implement developmentally appropriate lessons and activities under the direction of the classroom teacher.
• Reinforce educational goals and attend to the individual needs of the children.
• Follow busing and breakfast/lunch program procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience working with children, in a classroom setting, or with children/adults with developmental delays/disabilities.

Skills

• Sensitivity and ability to work well with children, understanding their needs.
• Ability to obtain and maintain CPI Certification.
• Good judgement and ability to work well with others, including staff and families.
• Computer skills.

Physical Requirements

• Physical actions may include lifting, bending, kneeling, standing, squatting, reaching, sprinting, crawling, and running.
• Vision, speech, tactile, and hearing senses adequate to perform job requirements.
• Frequent sitting, standing, and floor sitting with pediatric patients.

Pay

$66.50 per session.

Schedule

Temporary part-time, twice a week from approximately 3:30p – 5pm, October through December (20 sessions total).
