Liquids Cryogenic Hardware Design Engineer III - Lunar Permanence
About the role
This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. The Lunar Transporter team is building the spacecraft that will deliver cargo and crew to the Moon—opening an entirely new frontier for commerce, science, and exploration.
Responsibilities
- Define & Own Requirements – Lead component requirement definition for lunar-specific environments, negotiate critical interfaces, and evaluate both in-house and vendor solutions through rigorous first-order analysis
- Drive Design Reviews – Present detailed component designs to cross-functional teams, defend technical decisions, and collaborate across lunar vehicle systems
- Specify & Procure – Partner with suppliers to source optimal materials and components optimized for lunar transporter missions
- Execute the Full Cycle – From design refinement through build, test, and delivery—watch your components launch toward the Moon
- Document Excellence – Generate engineering drawings, P&IDs, and verification packages that meet lunar mission standards
- Lead Problem Solving – Conduct structural and fluid analyses using industry-leading tools (ANSYS, Thermal Desktop, Creo/ProEngineer) in the lunar thermal and vacuum environment
Requirements
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- 8+ years designing aerospace propulsion and cryogenic fluid systems, including piping architecture
- Deep expertise in cryogenic components (valves, regulators, pumps) and system design
- Proficiency in structural and fluid FEA (ANSYS), thermal analysis, and Creo/ProEngineer
- Expertise creating and interpreting P&IDs and fabrication drawings
Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) preferred
- Hands-on cryogenics experience
- Experience with space systems or extreme environment applications
- Mastery of Windchill and ProPiping
- Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards
- Familiarity with piping fabrication methods, welding, and installation best practices
- Non-linear FEA analysis experience

Pay
For CO applicants is $110,938.00 - $155,312.85
WA applicants is $121,023.00 - $169,432.20
