Linux System Administrator
This is a hybrid position with 3 days onsite in Fort Detrick, Maryland and 2 days remote. Expanded telework options are available on a case-by-case basis. The role supports a pivotal Defense Health Agency (DHA) program within our Health Portfolio.
About the role
The successful candidate will work with an experienced project team supporting systems that are instrumental to Medical Logistics (MEDLOG) business processes. Focuses on high-level troubleshooting across the DoD enterprise, automating cloud environments via OS-level programming, and maintaining deep visibility into system health via AWS monitoring tools.
Responsibilities
- Administer and support Linux servers in an AWS cloud environment, including backup, restore, and recovery operations.
- Architect and manage monitoring and alerting (CloudWatch, SNS) to proactively ensure server health and performance.
- Install, upgrade, patch, and maintain server software in compliance with IAVAs, DISA STIGs, and SRGs.
- Provide 24x7 technical support, disaster recovery planning/testing, and system recovery in accordance with Army regulations.
- Troubleshoot complex connectivity, integration, and network issues; coordinate PPS submissions as required.
- Collaborate with Cyber Security teams to identify, remediate, and mitigate IA findings.
- Deliver cloud infrastructure planning and maintain comprehensive system and user documentation.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, Business Administration, Management or other related scientific or technical discipline is required, plus a minimum of 7 years of infrastructure-related experience in enterprise Linux environments (OracleLinux).
- Experience in script programming (e.g., Shell, Perl, Python, Go, etc.).
- Proven experience in a DevOps environment and with server operations in large environments and in Gov. cloud (AWS).
- Must be able to obtain CompTIA Security+ certification prior to start date. Other acceptable certifications: Cloud+, GICSP, SSCP, GSEC, FITSP-O, GFACT, CASP+, CCNP Security, or CCSP.
- Must be able to obtain SYSOPS AWS certification.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen and willing and able to obtain a Public Trust suitability and undergo a Tier 3 Investigation for DoD Common Access Card (CAC) eligibility only.
Skills
- Exceptional interpersonal, problem-solving, and trade-off analysis skills – particularly cross-team coordination where an architecture change has an impact to multiple sub-systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Risk Management Framework (RMF) and other government audits.
- Experience with applying and maintaining DISA STIG and SRG configuration requirements.
- Experience with configuring and maintaining cloud-based infrastructure in support of SAP/HANA applications.
Physical Requirements
The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. The person in this position will need to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
