Linux System Administrator
About the role
Opportunity Information Management Group (IMG) is seeking a highly motivated Linux Systems Administrator to join our team in Schenectady, NY. This on‑site position requires a professional who brings strong technical expertise, exceptional attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to problem‑solving. The successful candidate will oversee and maintain the enterprise RedHat Linux environment to ensure stability, security, and performance while adhering to U.S. government risk‑management frameworks such as NIST 800‑53.
Responsibilities
- Administer and optimize RedHat Linux systems, OpenShift, VMWare, and Cloudera platforms, including authentication, cluster management, user management, monitoring, performance, and data management.
- Implement and enforce security measures to meet NIST 800‑53 standards.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and perform regular maintenance.
- Manage system updates, patches, and upgrades to ensure system integrity.
- Develop and enforce backup and disaster‑recovery plans.
- Provide support for system configurations, user management, and access control.
- Document system configurations, procedures, and updates.
- Collaborate with IT teams to integrate and manage applications and services.
Qualifications
- Security clearance: DoD Top Secret or DOE Q.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience (4+ additional years of experience in lieu of a degree).
- 5+ years of experience with RedHat Linux, VMware, and OpenShift (cumulative).
- 2+ years of experience supporting development of information‑system security authorization packages in accordance with the Risk Management Framework (NIST 800‑37, 800‑53, 800‑53a).
- Demonstrated experience implementing, validating, and remediating DISA STIG requirements for Red Hat Enterprise Linux or comparable Linux operating systems.
- Strong understanding of system security principles and experience with NIST 800‑53 compliance.
- Proficient in system performance tuning, troubleshooting, and problem resolution.
- Experience with scripting and automation (e.g., Bash, Python).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience with Cloudera Data Platforms (CDP).
- Experience with Denodo data virtualization.
- Experience with Neo4j development and administration or other graph‑database technologies.
- Experience with LakeFS, RedHat OpenShift AI, or other data‑versioning and MLOps tools.
- Knowledge of infrastructure security, endpoint protection, and vulnerability‑management tools.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., RHCE, VCP, CCA).
