About the role

The entity seeks a Clinical Laboratory Scientist CLS/Medical Technologist MT or Medical Laboratory Technician MLT to join their team. This position is located at the Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) in Marion, SC.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Moderate and High Complexity Testing on blood and all types of body fluid specimens.
  • Work in various areas of the Laboratory (Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Microbiology, etc.).
  • Affirm accurate and reliable test results by adhering to instrument maintenance, calibration, and quality control procedures.
  • Maintain records and statistical data according to regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with phlebotomy and other hospital staff to ensure proper collection of patient samples.
  • Troubleshoot problems with laboratory equipment, test methods, and sample collection.
  • Train new employees and students on laboratory methods, instruments, and policies.
  • Communicate patient results and/or problems to Medical or Nursing Staff.
  • Show good customer service and communication skills.
  • Work under pressure of emergency situations.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Laboratory Science or a related biological or chemical science.
  • Laboratory training through an accredited laboratory program preferred.
  • One to two years' experience working in an accredited laboratory preferred, but new graduates may also be considered.
  • Certification as a laboratory professional by ASCP, AMT, NCA, or HEW preferred.

Qualifications

  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, work indoors, work outside in temperature extremes, work from elevated areas, work in confined/cramped spaces, bend at the waist, twist at the waist, squat, perform pinching operations, perform gross motor activities, perform firm grasping, perform fine manipulation, reach overhead, perform repetitive motions, use both legs, use lower extremities for balance and coordination, reach in all directions, lift and carry 50 lbs., lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs., exert up to 50 lbs. of force, maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes, have good peripheral vision, maintain hearing acuity, have good olfactory sensory function, be qualified physically for respirator use, and maintain tactile sensory functions.
