Linguist

This is a vendor role with Highspring for a Fortune 100 client’s team, currently remote in the United States (Bay Area preferred).

About the role

The linguist will assist stakeholders in bringing rigor to human evaluations, guiding workflows from ideation to pilot to production launch. Working cross-functionally with specialists, you’ll apply linguistic principles to create process manuals, suggest improvements, and provide insights into evaluation performance. Responsibilities include designing evaluation processes, defining success metrics, conducting supplier training, and running calibration sessions with Product and Vendor teams.

Responsibilities

• Design human evaluation processes and define measurements for success and failure.
• Create process manuals and suggest workflow improvements using linguistic analysis.
• Provide insights into human evaluation performance.
• Conduct training across suppliers and run calibration sessions with Product and Vendor teams.

Requirements

• Native or professional fluency in English.
• Excellent communication skills (written and oral), with the ability to explain complex concepts to a broad audience.
• Master’s degree in Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of core linguistic concepts, including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics.
• 1–2 years of experience in a related field.
• Experience with project management responsibilities.
• Experience with machine learning, LLMs, prompt engineering, or natural language processing (NLP).

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional experience as a project manager or similar role.
• Experience writing process guides.
• Proven experience in linguistic data annotation, transcription, or analysis.
• Experience working on large-scale data projects in a technology or AI company.
• Knowledge of SQL or Python.

Schedule

• Weekday-only, PST schedule (Monday–Friday, no later than 7:00 AM and as late as 5:30 PM).
