Lineworker I-SR

This position may be filled as a Lineworker (Mechanic) I, II, III, or Sr based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

About the role

The ability to perform all aspects of the Lineworker job function including day-to-day maintenance and construction of overhead and underground electrical facilities. Responsibilities include learning, performing, and leading lineworkers, material maintenance, and aerial and underground utility distribution tasks. A Live Safe mindset is required to mitigate hazards in all tasks.

Responsibilities

• Lineworker I
  • Proper use and care of all rubber goods and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Perform confined space and bucket rescue tasks; set up and operate aerial baskets and digger derrick trucks.
  • Lift, rig, and tie knots for work in manholes and vaults; identify materials and understand distribution construction specifications.
  • Cover up secondary lines and perform energized work on secondary voltage lines.
  • Use meters to perform tests and install 3- and 4-wire secondary lines.
  • Identify substation and underground equipment.
• Lineworker II
  • Perform overhead tasks, including energized primary cover up to 34,500 volts.
  • Understand transformer theories, including bank installations, tap settings, and constructing multiple secondary voltage applications.
  • Learn and perform simple primary voltage switching (up to 34,500 volts).
  • Lift, rig, and tie knots to set up, construct, frame poles, and change out cross-arms.
• Lineworker III
  • Perform all tasks included in Lineworker I and II.
  • Build and maintain underground residential distribution circuits, including operating pad mount switchgear, installing and troubleshooting URD circuits, and switching/tagging URD primary cable.
  • Learn three-phase primary tasks, including safe operation and removal/installation of single and three-phase reclosers, changing insulators, and installing/replacing Gang Operated Airbrake Switches (GOABs).
• Lineworker Sr
  • Perform all tasks included in Lineworker I through III.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, including indirect crew leadership.
  • Learn and perform advanced primary voltage switching (up to 34,500 volts).
  • Perform advanced tasks on Regulators, capacitor banks, Alternate Switching Scheme, and Intelliruptor devices.
• All Levels
  • Maintain a well-organized and safe jobsite.
  • Complete and perform all mandated training, such as First Aid and CPR.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 6 months to 4 years of experience in a distribution field (placement level determined by experience). Preferred: 2 years of direct Distribution linework experience.
• Valid driver’s license; must obtain a Class-A CDL within 6 months of employment. Preferred: valid Class A CDL.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions, irregular hours, and out-of-town assignments.
• Ability to take and understand directives, complete tasks with limited supervision, and plan work safely and efficiently.
• Ability to assume a lead role and direct the work of other linemen.
• Ability to climb and work off poles of various heights and walk on all types of terrain.

Schedule

Travel required: 25% to 50%. Availability to work additional hours, alternate locations, and perform duties during storms, outages, emergencies, or other situations as needed.

Primary location: Labadieville, Louisiana. This is an onsite position and a Safety Sensitive role, subject to mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing.
