About the Role

This position performs all aspects of the Lineworker job function, including maintaining and building overhead and underground electrical facilities. Work is performed in enclosed spaces, manholes, and vaults. Responsibilities include learning, performing, and leading lineworkers in utility distribution construction tasks, aerial and underground work, and material maintenance. A Live Safe mindset is required to mitigate hazards in all tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Lineworker Helper:
    • Learn and apply human performance and safety tools in daily work.
    • Drive various sizes and types of trucks.
    • Operate equipment such as Aerial Bucket, Bread Vans, and Digger Derrick Trucks.
    • Read and interpret job prints and sketches with reference to distribution standards.
  • Lineworker I:
    • Properly use and care for rubber goods and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
    • Perform confined space and bucket rescue tasks.
    • Set up and operate aerial baskets and digger derrick trucks.
    • Lift, rig, and tie knots for work in manholes and vaults.
    • Identify materials and understand distribution construction specifications.
    • Cover up secondary lines and perform energized work on secondary voltage lines.
    • Use meters to perform tests and install 3- and 4-wire secondary lines.
    • Identify substation and underground equipment.
  • Lineworker II:
    • Perform underground tasks, including energized primary cover up to 34,500 volts.
    • Understand transformer theories, including bank installations, tap settings, and secondary voltage applications.
    • Perform simple primary voltage switching (up to 34,500 volts).
    • Troubleshoot, splice, and repair energized underground secondary cable (120/208) circuits.
    • Identify Network Grids and perform splicing of primary underground cable.
  • Lineworker III:
    • Perform all tasks included in Helper through Lineworker II.
    • Build and maintain underground residential and network grid distribution circuits.
    • Prepare and operate pad mount switchgear.
    • Install and troubleshoot URD circuits and perform switching/tagging of URD primary cable.
    • Perform three-phase primary tasks, including safe operation and removal/installation of automatic transfer switches and manual switching schemes.
    • Switch 3-phase distribution circuits in vaults and substations.
    • Troubleshoot, repair, and phase network protectors (120/208V).
  • Lineworker Sr:
    • Perform all tasks included in Helper through Lineworker III.
    • Demonstrate leadership capabilities, including indirect crew leadership.
    • Perform advanced primary voltage switching (up to 34,500 volts).
    • Construct vaults, locate and correct backfeed situations.
    • Troubleshoot and repair energized 277/480V network protectors and automatic transfer switches.
    • Install communication equipment (Secondary Monitoring) in vaults.
    • Perform complex troubleshooting of underground circuits using VLF, capacitor discharge, TDR, and Arc Reflexional Methods.
    • Understand network protector relay schemes and Secondary Mesh Network Systems.
  • All Levels:
    • Work on-call after hours.
    • Maintain a well-organized and safe jobsite.
    • Complete mandated training such as First Aid, CPR, etc.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum Experience:
    • Lineworker Helper: 0-1 year of experience.
    • Lineworker I: 6 months to 1 year of field distribution experience.
    • Lineworker II: 1.5 to 2 years of field distribution experience.
    • Lineworker III: 2.5 to 3 years of field distribution experience.
    • Lineworker Sr: 3.5 to 4 years of field distribution experience.
  • Complete fitness for duty testing and demonstrate physical strength to perform tasks in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work irregular hours and out-of-town assignments.
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow directives.
  • Adhere to all Entergy safety policies and procedures.
  • Learn through classroom instruction, on-the-job training, and repetitive motions.
  • Recognize and mitigate workplace hazards.
  • Maintain and care for company equipment and safeguard assets.
  • Interact with the public in a pleasant and tactful manner, delivering high-level customer service.
  • Recognize opportunities for process improvement.

  • Ability to walk on all types of terrain.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain a Class-A CDL.

This position is designated as safety-sensitive and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing.

Location

Required to live within 30 miles of the service area headquarters in Marksville or Grayson, Louisiana. Travel up to 25% may be required.
