Responsibilities
- Follows and understands proper safety and temporary grounding procedures.
- Reads and interprets outdoor electrical distribution system drawings.
- Performs layout and supervision of small line construction projects.
- Operates equipment, bucket trucks, digger derrick (line) trucks, trenchers, and backhoe.
- Installs power poles and guys with all related cross arms, insulators and hardware.
- Performs basic rigging associated with the installation of switchgear, transformers, steel structures, etc.
- Erects steel substation structures in accordance with erection drawings.
- Strings aerial conductors with proper sags and tensions.
- Installs aerial and pad-mounted transformers and related switchgear.
- Properly installs and terminates primary (5 KV and up) cables.
- Makes correct transformer connections.
- Installs substation ground grid systems.
- Performs layout and supervision of duct banks and cable installations.
- Installs outdoor lighting systems.
- Affirms compliance with the National Electric Code (NEC) and National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
- Affirms that quality and productivity meet Company and customer standards.
- Affirms that appropriate on-the-job training takes place for all subordinates.
- Safeguards and maintains Company equipment and tools.
- Keeps abreast of new developments and techniques in the electrical construction trade.
- Recommends improved methods of operation.
- Complies with Company standards of conduct and appearance to reflect positively on the Company image.
- Requisitions materials and supplies; schedules heavy vehicles when not done by Line Foreperson.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of apprenticeship program modified for lineperson.
- Minimum of four years spent primarily in the aerial line and underground power construction field.
- Understanding of general line construction standards and procedures for primary and secondary installations.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the safe operation of line and bucket trucks, trenchers, and backhoe.
- Maintains current CPR card.
- Understanding of operation and troubleshooting procedures for distribution system.
- Knowledge of various types of dielectric insulating fluids.
- Demonstrated ability to use basic electrical measuring and testing equipment (megger, volt, amp and ohm meters).
- Knowledge of characteristics and correct installation procedures of high voltage cable including terminating and splicing.
- Ability to size, install and connect single- and three-phase transformers utilizing standard connections.
- Ability to properly lay out and administer small jobs (normally one to three men).
- Good working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC) and National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
- Good character, neat appearance.
- Confident, decisive, safety oriented, and self-motivated, exhibiting a stable personality.
- Maintain a valid commercial driver’s license-Class A and a history of safe driving.
- Must have reliable personal transportation to and from the assigned work location/office.
- Purchase Company required personal tools (see attached list) and maintain in good condition.
- Ability and willingness to travel nationally to jobsites.
- Ability and willingness to stay away on job sites for up to two weeks if needed.
- Ability to operate a computer or tablet in order to enter information into Tri-M’s ProNav system.
Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of apprenticeship program modified for lineperson.
- Four years of experience in aerial line and underground power construction.
- Understanding of line construction standards and procedures.
- Proficiency in safe operation of line and bucket trucks, trenchers, and backhoe.
- Current CPR card.
- Knowledge of distribution system operations and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of dielectric insulating fluids.
- Ability to size, install, and connect transformers.
- Ability to perform basic rigging and erect steel structures.
- Good character, neat appearance.
- Confident, decisive, safety-oriented, and self-motivated personality.
- Valid commercial driver’s license-Class A with a history of safe driving.
- Reliable personal transportation.
- Ability to operate a computer or tablet.

Schedule
Working 40 hours/week, scheduled in 8 to 10-hour shifts.
