Line Specialist Apprentice III
General Functions
The fourth phase training program, where, through study and supervised on-the-job training, employee can advance to Line Specialist.
A Line Specialist Apprentice III assists the line crew in routine duties of construction and maintenance while obtaining the necessary skills, knowledge, and work experience to be promoted. Work is performed under close supervision by supervisors in upper-level related classifications. Work performance is evaluated by observation of results obtained and the ability to develop necessary knowledge and skills required to be promoted to the next position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responds to emergencies as needed.
- Ability to work alone on de-energized/grounded primary conductors.
- Ability to work alone on energized primary using hot stick.
- Ability to glove work energized primary conductor under the direct supervision of a journeyman in the bucket.
- Responsible for trimming trees around power lines.
- Climbs poles, splices wires, installs poles, insulators, and electric lines.
- Works on special projects around the City involving electrical work.
- Attends school for special training in electrical and high-voltage work.
- Learns to use tools and the techniques common to Line Specialist work.
- Safeguards equipment assigned.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Type of Appointment/Work hours
- Full-time/Regular in-person position.
- Standard workweek, which is forty (40) hours of work per week consisting of five (5) days of eight (8) hours per day. The workday may be varied for the efficient delivery of public service.
- Will be required to work other than the standard workweek on occasion, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Will be required to work occasional overtime or shift assignments, when applicable.
Requirements
- Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalency.
- Proven ability to climb poles, perform bucket work, and pass a written exam.
- Must have completed twelve (12) months of satisfactory work as a Line Specialist or Line Specialist Apprentice II or its industry equivalent.
- Must have completed appropriate sections of job-related Study Courses.
- Must have the ability to meet the physical requirements as outlined in the attached worksheet.
- Must have completed pole climbing training.
- Must possess a valid Florida Class “A” Commercial Driver's License.
- Must pass a background screening process.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance
- The employee must successfully pass a background screening process and comply with the City’s Drug-Free Workplace policy.
- The City will also verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals hired so the proper completion of Form I-9 is required, which includes the employee providing documents evidencing identity and employment authorization.
