About the role
This position is posted in a range from Line Mechanic D-A and requires "recommended" results on the HireVue Line Worker Virtual Job Tryout. The selected candidate will need to reside within 45 minutes of the Rocky Mount Service Center.
Responsibilities
Assist in performing work involved with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities; drive and operate line trucks and associated auxiliary equipment. All job duties apply to overhead and underground equipment and facilities.
Specific responsibilities vary by level, but may include:
- Assisting with the assembly, installation, maintenance, removal, and inspection of underground facilities, conductors, fixtures, structures, and other associated equipment
- Performing ground person duties under immediate or direct supervision
- Assisting with loading, unloading, handling, maintaining, installing, and removing poles, towers, and structures
- Operating Company equipment, climbing poles, ladders, and structures, and working on de-energized conductors and equipment
- Assembling and installing Line Material and hardware under direct or immediate supervision
- Using and storing hand lines, tie knots, and demonstrating a basic working knowledge with ropes and rigging equipment inspection and use
- Splicing primary and secondary overhead wires using the proper tools, hardware, and equipment
- Testing de-energized overhead lines and equipment, installing and removing personal protective grounds under immediate supervision
- Inspecting and maintaining tools, equipment, and work area in a safe, clean, and orderly fashion
- Identifying, inspecting, using, and maintaining all classes of rubber gloves and sleeves, and insulating blankets, hoses, and covers
- Inspecting, maintaining, organizing, operating, and stocking company vehicles, equipment, and tools
- Performing housekeeping duties as assigned, reporting irregularities and abnormal conditions, and safely executing pole top rescue and bucket truck rescue processes
Requirements
The minimum requirements for this position vary by level, but may include:
- High school diploma or GED
- No experience required for Line Mechanic D, but line work experience or line school education is preferred
- Minimum of one year distribution electrical power line work experience, or one year of related line experience defined as: successful completion of a one year electrical power line school certificate plus a minimum of 16 weeks internship or distribution electrical power line experience, or an Associate degree from an electrical power line school which includes a minimum of 16 weeks internship or distribution electrical power line experience for Line Mechanic C
- Valid state driver's license, with a valid Class A CDL required for Line Mechanic C
- Ability and desire to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties and/or responsibilities of the key job in this family
Qualifications
Qualifications for this position vary by level, but may include:
- Completion of D-100, D-200, or D-300, or equivalent experience for Line Mechanic D
- Completion of C-100, C-200, or C-400, or equivalent experience for Line Mechanic C
- Ability to perform work on conductors and equipment energized up to 260 volts or 600 volts under direct, immediate, or general supervision
- Ability to use volt meters, amp meters, ground meggers, continuity testers, and other electrical test equipment associated with line work
