About the role
John F. Martin & Sons, LLC is seeking a FIRST SHIFT - Line Lead in our Processing Department. Hours are: 5:30 am - 2:30 pm (with some mandatory overtime).
Responsibilities
- Assist the supervisor in overseeing the production team's activities.
- Provide input on employee counseling and performance evaluations.
- Aid the supervisor with the day-to-day production process, ensuring smooth operation and efficiency.
- Ensure staff meet production, quality, and safety goals.
- In the absence of the supervisor, take on their duties.
- Supervise all operational and safety-related functions of company equipment and machinery, including Mixers, Mixer-grinders, Grinders, Stuffers, Frank-o-matics, Pallet Jacks, High Lifts, and other production-related machinery.
- Be consistent and reliable in attendance.
- Use basic math skills to manage production and quality.
- Understand and follow all company recipes.
- Lift up to 80 lbs. bags of recipe spices and move raw meat weighing up to 1,800 lbs. using proper techniques.
- Educate employees on the Computer System Deacom for product oversight and traceability.
- Oversee production activities and track product yields, pump percentages, and formulate meat blocks.
- Report to management staff on safety, quality, productivity, and attendance issues.
- Operate machinery, plan staff schedules, and rotate tasks.
- Report plant machinery breakdowns to maintenance technicians.
- Ensure employees are wearing mandatory PPE (earplugs, aprons, gloves, boots) and chemical PPE to qualified employees.

Qualifications
- Ability to use basic math skills to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Understanding of all aspects of company recipes.
- Capable of lifting 20 to 80 lbs.
- Ability to pull/push cages with raw meat weighing between 290 to 1,800 lbs. using proper techniques.
- Effective presentation skills in one-on-one and small group settings.
- Ability to track product yields, pump percentages, and formulate meat blocks.
- Fast-paced refrigerated environment experience.
- Ability to engage and motivate the production team while setting a professional example.
- Ability to report to management staff on safety, quality, productivity, and attendance issues.
- Experience operating machinery and planning staff schedules/rotations/tasks.
- Reporting plant machinery breakdowns to maintenance technicians.
- Ensuring employees are wearing mandatory PPE and chemical PPE.
