About the role
This position is available as a Line Cook within the Food Service Department at [University Name]. It is a full-time, non-exempt, hourly position with a starting rate of $18.35 per hour. Benefits are included, and schedules are varied, subject to the Union Contract.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook items such as omelets, made to order eggs, fresh gourmet burgers, Philly cheesesteaks, and breakfast items.
- Work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Use and clean equipment such as fryers, char-broilers, flat-tops, convection ovens.
- Clean equipment, perform preventative maintenance, and maintain a clean workspace.
- Teamwork, communication skills, reading tickets, and multi-tasking are essential.
- Food preparation and cooking of various items, following established recipes and production systems.
- Maintain production and usage records, prepare customers' orders, and handle requests in a timely manner.
- Maintain high sanitary, hygienic, and safety standards and conditions, adhering to HACCP & NYS Dept. of Health guidelines.
- Assist with training new hires and student workers.
- Perform high volume prep work, including knife skills and recipe preparation.
- General cleaning, other food service duties, and projects as requested by management.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years professional cooking experience, including stir fry, deep frying, grilling, roasting, steaming, cold food production, and food presentation and garnishing standards.
- Proficiency in professional knife-handling skills.
- Experience in following standardized recipes, measuring ingredients accurately.
- Experience organizing and maintaining kitchen workstations.
- Ability to correctly identify products.
- Priority work, execution of tasks with speed, efficiency, and accuracy in a high-volume environment.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English, and have accurate math skills.
- Professional appearance, demeanor, and hygiene maintained.
- Reliable transportation and attendance required.

- Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs., occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
