About the Role

As a Line Cook, you will accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and/or cold food items for various meal periods, including Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Special/Catered Events. This role involves producing small to large batch goods using advanced and full range of classical cooking techniques, and preparing food for residents in a Senior Living/Healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook to order foods requiring short to mid-level preparation time, including operating a grill station and serving customers à la carte.
  • Follow standardized recipes to ensure proper quantities and consistent high quality.
  • Read food orders or receive verbal instructions to prepare and cook food according to patron requirements.
  • Provide high-quality service to customers and follow basic recipes or product directions for preparing, seasoning, cooking, tasting, carving, and serving various food items.
  • Operate kitchen equipment to measure, mix, wash, peel, cut, and shred ingredients, and trim meat, poultry, or fish for culinary use.
  • Taste products, read menus, estimate food requirements, check production, and keep records to plan production and requisition supplies.
  • Attend allergy and foodborne illness training and apply food safety principles to food preparation and sanitation.
  • Receive, move, and lift foodstuffs and supplies, and prepare meals for customers requiring special diets.
  • Take and record temperatures, correct discrepancies, and prepare foods according to production sheets.
  • Complete all prep items according to prep sheets and plate food with attention to appearance and garnish.
  • Produce small to large batch goods using advanced classical cooking techniques.
  • Clean and sanitize workstations and equipment, following all regulatory rules and procedures.
  • Assist with setups, break down and clean serving lines, and properly store and label food items with appropriate dates.
  • Comply with company safety and risk management policies, participate in safety meetings and training, and attend designated programs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Food Handler’s Permit is required; ServSafe training is beneficial.
  • State sanitation certificate.
  • 3-4 years of related and advanced food service and cooking experience.
  • Experience with basic operation of kitchen equipment and intermediate to advanced knife skills.

Skills

  • Extensive working knowledge of a kitchen environment and food preparation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written, English) with residents and staff.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions, recipes, and safety practices unsupervised.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Cordial and congenial demeanor with residents; dependable, detail-oriented, and organized.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision, handle multiple tasks, and react calmly in emergencies.
  • Patience and compassion for senior adults, with consideration for their comfort, safety, and belongings.
  • Ability to set priorities, manage time efficiently, and maintain a neat work area.
  • Adherence to dress code and kitchen uniform requirements.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, preparation, and serving principles.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with employees, residents, families, visitors, vendors, and healthcare professionals.
  • Flexibility to work holidays and varied hours.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift or carry equipment/supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent stooping, bending, climbing, reaching, pulling/pushing, and extended periods of walking/standing.
  • Stand, sit, twist, bend, squat, kneel, or crouch for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
  • Adequate sight and hearing to meet job responsibilities.
  • Ability to work in a standing position for extended periods.
  • Exposure to heat/cold during support of outside activities.

Pay

A reasonable estimate of the pay range for this position is $14.01 - $18.44 per hour. Factors influencing pay include job-related qualifications, experience, skills, education, geographic location, and internal/external equity considerations.
