About the role
The Greece Central School District seeks a Cook to join their team. The position is non-competitive and requires a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, cook, and serve hot and cold food items to students, faculty, administration, and guests.
- Prepare food in accordance with established menus.
- Supervise the activities of workers who assist in preparing, portioning, and serving of meals utilizing HACCP principles.
- Perform management functions in the absence of the manager.
- Supervise and may participate in cleaning of kitchen utensils, equipment, and inspection of work area for cleanliness.
- Aid with catering events.
- Aid with requisition of food and supplies.
- Aid with maintaining records for inventory, production, and sales.
- Occasionally available in the evening for catering functions.
- Maintain accurate production records for all items produced.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate's degree in Food Service Administration or Culinary Arts or a closely related field, PLUS six (6) months of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in the preparation and cooking of a complete menu of foodstuffs for consumption on a large scale for a restaurant, hotel or institution, other than short order or fast food;
- OR, Two (2) years of paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience as described in (A) above;
- OR, An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of proper methods for preparing, cooking and serving quality food in large quantities and for storing and preserving food;
- Knowledge of proper care and operation of kitchen utensils, equipment, and appliances;
- Knowledge of the principles of nutrition and a balanced diet;
- Knowledge of sanitary and safety principles and practices applicable to food production and serving;
- Knowledge of cleaning methods and the use of cleaning supplies for appliances, equipment, and food preparation and serving areas.
Skills
- Ability to plan, assign, and review the work of others;
- Ability to follow menus, special diets and recipes, and simple oral and written directions;
- Ability to prepare, serve, and store food with proper regard to sanitary and safety principles;
- Ability to work under time constraints and meet food production schedules;
- Ability to deal effectively with students, faculty, administration and patrons.
Benefits
The Greece Central School District offers a competitive salary of $19.00/hour minimum, subject to bargaining unit contract. The position is civil service and falls under the Teamsters Contract.

Schedule
5:15 am - 1:45 pm Daily Hours: 8.5 (8 paid) Work Year: 10 month
